How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Quantum Break is not the most revolutionary of games, and its box of time toys cover what is, at heart, a fairly standardized shooter. However, it carries itself with style and speed to create something genuinely fascinating to play, flavored by a story that, while failing to pay off in the final stretch, is more detailed and engrossing than most in its league.”

“The game's stronger than expected writing and decent cast more than make up for its conceptual banalities.”

“With astounding production values, powerful story-telling, and rewarding combat, Quantum Break is a stellar game. But due to an underdeveloped upgrade system and poorly thought out content delivery that demands heavy bandwidth, it isn't exactly a game we can recommend to everyone wholeheartedly. Make no mistake though, if you have the means to play it as it was meant to be, it's worth experiencing.”

“Quantum Break is a dual experience - on one side is its great and interesting story with many interesting ideas, but on the other is mediocre gameplay. At the end, this is a game worth playing, especially if you're a completionist, but not a journey you'd be willing to take once more.”

“Even though Quantum Break is storytelling, there's no point in writing too much about it in a review. It would reveal too much, reveal facts that are best known for yourself. It is enough to mention that we are dealing with time travel and they are the most important element of this story, influencing not only its shape, but also the core of the game, including the mechanics of clashes with opponents. If you skipped the first paragraph of the review, it's time to catch up on that now and put Remedy's work alongside the more successful examples I've listed.”

“If you are looking for an action game with constant shootouts, Quantum Break might not be for you. The game does have its action sequences, which are very fun, but the heavy focus on the narrative constantly breaks this vibe. If it is not to enjoy the story, it is preferable that you look for something else to play. Now, if you are an admirer of games with well-crafted narratives, dive deep, explore every corner of the scenario, and have the patience to read the e-mails on the computers (some are really very long).”

“The phrase "all spark, no flare" fits like a glove for Quantum Break. It doesn't do anything wrong, but there's also nothing special about it. It looks cool, the time machine-induced apocalypse starts in a promising way, and some of the characters are quite interesting, but it doesn't take much time to realise that hidden behind the flashy shootouts, famous faces, and ambitious storytelling, is a boring and generic sci-fi tale that never really goes anywhere.”

“Quantum Break's commitment to delivering a rich, layered narrative isn't always conducive to gameplay, but that doesn't diminish how engrossing this is an entertainment experience. The combination of intense time-bending action, gripping story, and cutting-edge presentation make this the kind of game that sucks you in and doesn't let go until the credits roll. While it's not quite as inventive as it thinks it is, Quantum Break is fresh, ambitious, and a heck of a lot of fun.”

“Quantum Break, Microsoft's newest exclusive, perfectly scents Remedy Studio and its style, which only maybe them could design and build.”

“As it is, as I said at the beginning: time is the virtue and the problem of experience. The chronological concept feels fresh, but Quantum Break was in the oven for so long, I was expecting a bit more, especially from the decision-making and the show. The transmedia component passes as a distraction or marketing ploy rather than innovation, and what could have been something genuinely unique ended up being good ... nothing more. Remedy took an excessively safe route in several of his decisions and missed opportunities to transcend the game mechanics. Despite that, the action is rewarding and the story clever; more than enough elements to give the game a good grade.”

“Quantum Break will not disappoint you. It is a video game with a very well-told story that grows in interest, graphic effects that we have not seen before on consoles and a heart attack sound section. It is not perfect but it is Remedy.”
