How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“A solid horror game overall. The incredible job done towards maintaining its atmosphere and the sheer amount of exploration to be done are my favorite aspects of this game.”

“Overall my time playing Yomawari: Midnight Shadows was mixed, at times I found myself really enjoying it and wanting to progress then other I just felt like I wanted to put the control down and not pick it back up. The story was quiet dark but at the same time made you feel for the two girls but not being able to fight back against the spirits in anyway was a huge bug bear for me.”

“While the original clocked in at only 3-4 hours, this is easily double that. A superb sequel that more than lives up to the original and a truly chilling experience that any horror game fan owes themselves to experience.”

“Yomawari: Midnight Shadows is full of surprises. Some people may bemoan the cutesy art style and complain how its not real enough to be a horror experience. However, Yomawari: Midnight Shadows certainly knows how to convey a sense of dread - an impressive feat for a title that really adheres more to a show than tell approach.”

“It's been hard to find horror games that scratch my itch to be disturbed without catching me with cheap scares or leaving me with weeks of nightmares. I long for tense, atmospheric experiences that get me shivering and shaken and Yomawari: Midnight Shadows shook me to my core. It's a masterful horror game that tops anything else on the Vita, and rivals many other things on the PS4 as it blends detailed sound-design with rich art and a somber narrative to craft a breath-taking horror experience. Some puzzle segments can be obtuse, and the ending lacks the same sense of accomplishment of the first game, but despite all that, Yomawari continues to perfectly define horror.”

“So the question comes to why you should buy Midnight Shadows? Well if you're looking for a horror game, there are better titles out there and if you want a deep, memorable adventure Yomawari is at most fine. But despite all of this, it's an enjoyable experience for those who like these kind of games or those who enjoyed the previous game.”

“Overall the game is a lot of fun, improving on the formula from Yomawari: Night Alone, and it's definitely worth a purchase. The great graphics, music and eerie sounds are fantastic, and the game's story is definitely something you have to experience.”
