How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Age of Wonders: Planetfall is a decent strategy game overall. The combat is fun, the province system is great, and the quest system is pretty cool. However, the game is brought down by its lackluster AI, disappointing diplomacy mechanics, and numerous technical issues.”

“Age of Wonders: Planetfall turned out to be more specific than the triquel. It seems that Triumph Studio managed to get stuck in time, steal some ideas of competitors and at the same time predict development of trends. However, it is still a very exciting game that will be interesting to fans of the genre. Especially it should be recommended to the owners of PS4 and Xbox One, which ignores by Sid Meier's Civilization.”

“I’d like to think about Planetfall as a spin-off than a proper Age of Wonders Sequel. It enhances a lot of its strategic layer including, but not limited to new sectors, more quests and a bit more “personality” to each faction. Such changes come at a price, which in turns make the early game a bit of a slog. The tactical aspects, on the other hand, continue as sublime as ever.”

“A few minor flaws can’t ruin this truly great game. Almost everything in Age of Wonders: Planetfall has been done perfectly. The futuristic world turned out great, the satirical atmosphere is refreshing, and the combination of the best parts of Civilization and XCOM resulted in such an addictive game that the developers should warn about it beforehand.”

“Truly exemplifying the maxim of 'too much of a good thing,' there is simply too much here that bogs itself down. The battle and strategic systems have some really cool and interesting ideas, but there is far too much... stuff that takes both of them down a notch. The strategic layer has way too many things to do with too much consequence, and the battle system takes too long, and is replete with a dizzying number of little things that must be taken into account, lest destruction result. It's really too bad as the core of the game is extremely solid, yet there is just too much in the way for it to shine.”
