How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Saints Row left me wanting more. Even the radio stations you can listen to and the track selection felt small in comparison to how bombastic of a soundtrack its past games had. While its side missions checked the open-world box of giving you something to do to keep you busy during or after you finish the story, most of them felt repetitive and only some truly captured the fun the games are known for thanks to some clever writing and line delivery.”

“Saints Row had chance to be something much more, if only the team behind the game tried to take a more bold and careful approach.”

“A poor attempt to bring back the series: the game looks outdated and unfinished. Looks like another reboot is needed.”

“The new Saints Row left me with rather mixed feelings, and even though we’ve gone back in time and the reboot is sort of returning to the series’ roots, it offers almost no innovation that could appeal to a new audience. All in all, Saints Row is still the same game we’ve come to expect, and instead of any major innovations, we’ve been left with a number of shortcomings that we simply can’t overlook after several delays. From us at Gaming Professors, Saints Row gets six out of ten.”

“I was really hoping to enjoy the life of crime in Saints Row and the few moments where everything clicked were exhilarating. But, overall, it is not an enjoyable experience, not even if you decide to get it on sale. I would recommend that you sit this one out, and save both your time and money.”

“As a massive fan of the Saints Row franchise, I really wanted to love this game. But It’s an incomplete and buggy mess that made it hard to play at the best of times.”

“The biggest issue with the new “Saints Row” isn’t the lack of humor or well written characters, but consistency and a coherent narrative. In some ways, the franchise is too afraid of its past and still struggles to find its footing and look to the future.”

“Saints Row got rebooted in a way that should appeal to anyone meaning it’s very safe. And as such, it doesn’t interest me in any way. It is a perfect example of a mediocre title, play & forget.”

“Reinvention can just as easily be a prompt for a bold new swing, and while Saints Row feigns one or two, it could stand to commit more fully to them. This retooling/reboot/reenvisioning doubles down on the past in an intentional, if short-lived, nostalgia play, but there has to be more there, right? If we should see more of these Saints-and I earnestly do want to-I would hope it would be with something fresh to say or show. Until then, Saints Row still has some growing to do.”

“Saints Row has the potential to be a decent video game, but it's so repetitive and filled with so many technical problems that it becomes hard to recommend.”

“Compared to Saints Row IV and Saints Row The Third, this reboot feels more like a glorified retread than an evolution. But to people new to the sandbox crime game genre and who just want a lot of punchy fun & surprises out of their crime games for 25+ hours? It's a decent introduction and a case study on how to make the genre seem fun again, as well as keep the series grounded to its Grand Theft Auto-inspired roots.”
