How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Ride 3 pushes the series ever onwards and whilst it's mostly unremarkable it should be lauded for providing bike enthusiasts the world over with their Forza equivalent.

Ride 3 is a definite improvement upon its predecessors in various domains. Of all of Milestone's recent projects, the move to Unreal Engine 4 pays off most here. The previously washed-out visuals have been replaced by something more high-fidelity, bringing it up to par with the standards of other racers of its type today. It's more polished elsewhere too, with distinctly cleaner menus, a better soundtrack and crisper on-track audio too. The title features an impressive range of different types of bike, but unfortunately, it's still difficult to discern any handling differences between bikes within the same class. It's a bit disappointing that Ride 3 doesn't step things up more in this department, but it's still a much better-tuned instalment. With not a lot of competition in sight, Ride 3 is something of a Forza-equivalent for bike racing enthusiasts, but there's still plenty of room for improvement.

RIDE 3 will be loved by fans of motorcycle sims, but likely won't be the game to invite new audiences to the genre. The sheer number of unlockables is impressive and the extensive campaign mode is sure to give fans a lot to sink their, er, wheels into. However, some slightly sloppy visuals and the difficult to pick up gameplay will keep it reserved for that niche audience.

In my opinion, Milestone RIDE 3 is close to creating the perfect motorcycle racing game. In addition to a variety of motorcycles with countless customization options, I also enjoyed the different tracks a lot. I especially like the open air tracks with their many details and is a good alternative to the official race tracks, which you already know from many other racing games. Both visually and the driving feeling could be compared to its predecessor, and so RIDE 3 offers the player a very authentic gaming experience that should entertain you for a long time.

o, this is a recommendation, with a warning. It takes a while to get used to, and is unforgiving as you start, but dig deep and Ride 3 becomes a faithful recreation of the thrills of motorbike racing.

Milestone delivers its most comprehensive, accessible and enjoyable racer yet - though it still suffers from some of the same old problems.

Another good, but not perfect racing from Milestone. There is a lot of vehicles and massive campaign, but still same failings.

It doesn’t do very much to stand out, but it doesn’t have any major issues either, making it a perfectly alright game.

Unevenly polished and uninviting to novices, RIDE 3 is nevertheless a decent simulation that motorcycle enthusiasts will get plenty of mileage out of.

The performance of the bikes and uninspiring career structure mean that the game quickly becomes a grind. In the first hour or so of gameplay, you are overwhelmed by the choice of bikes, tracks and artful menu design. But long-term, your excitement is quickly replaced by tedium. Which is a shame.

Ride 3 is probably the most complex racing game focusing strictly on classic cars. With more than 200 perfectly modelled motorbikes, both modern and old, a bit less perfect racing tracks and very addictive gameplay, it can keep you entertained for a great amount of time. Although, to enjoy it fully, you have to be a true racer and love racing in a racing line.

While it packs in more content than its predecessors, RIDE 3 feels soulless and nonessential if you already own last year’s instalment.
