How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Overpass certainly adds an interesting take on the genre, allowing for well-trodden ground to feel fresh. Unfortunately the difficulty of the game and poor handling will prevent most from making it past the tutorial.”

“Overpass is a mediocre off-road simulator that we appreciate for its originality, physics and difficulty. However, we notice the flaws and mistakes indicating the developer's fine job was, in fact, only half-done. What a shame.”

“Creating an off-road racing simulator to differentiate yourself from the competition is undoubtedly a great idea. However, it also needs to be well crafted, which is definitely not the case with Overpass. Despite the fact that the title offers decent physics where you have to plan your every run, there are many aspects that bring Overpass down to a worse average. These are mainly the outdated graphics, uninteresting career and only two types of races without any sauce around. For the very die-hard fans of off-road racing, we can probably recommend the title with a nod of both eyes and ears even with the aforementioned shortcomings, but for the rest of us, we say hands off.”

“Overpass is an awkward, ornery racing game that stubbornly refuses to indulge your need for speed and instant gratification.”

“When you think of a racing game, thoughts normally center on head-to-head contests between multiple contestants, but there are other styles and Overpass slots into one of those alternate categories...”

“Overpass's unique physics system and emphasis on balance might be enough to win over the most dedicated of off-road racing fans, but its shallow progression systems and monotonous gameplay loop greatly limit its appeal.”

“Overpass has a neat idea at its core, but it's struggled to pull it off effectively. Surmounting treacherous terrain against the clock is sadly not as fun as it sounds, and you're more likely to get frustrated by the iffy handling and strict rules. There's the kernel of a good game here, and we don't doubt some people will enjoy overcoming this game's challenges, but a lack of polish where it matters most puts this game between a rock and a hard place.”

“Overpass has some interesting elements, but is largely a very basic and issue ridden racing title that sends you spiraling into a silent mind numbingly boring ride.”

“Not even fans of the genre should put themselves through this, let alone casual racer fans. Whilst it may be too niche a concept for a mainstream company, there’s a lot more that could be done with it than this terrible offering. For the mean time, if you want some decent offroad-ish racing, give Wreckfest a try instead.”

“This hardcore off-road driving sim is focused and compelling, but just a bit too austere for its own good.”
