How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 89.7, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 1,373 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

The gameplay is good and the atmosphere is indeed relaxing, but it is extremely short, with most puzzles being completed in just seconds. Even so, it is fun during that time.

Given the extremely budget-friendly pricing Hexologic is a satisfying way to spend a few hours if you’re a big puzzle fan. I enjoyed the fact that there were multiple methods to make the puzzles more challenging used in different cases. Certainly sheer scale can be intimidating but having the grid broken into multiple pieces and more than one set of shared spaces kept things from feeling too repetitive throughout. I’d love to see even more variations and further substantial puzzles in the future, if the ability to lock space/lines were added I’d be all the happier. Highly recommended for puzzle fans!

For what it is, Hexologic is a pleasant experience. I always feel weird discussing price in reviews, but since this game launched at $2.99 on Switch, expectations of what it should be need to be adjusted accordingly. At $3, Hexologic is a light, worthwhile experience. It’s not going to surprise you with oodles of content, but it’s a great foundation for a much deeper and longer lasting puzzler.

A smart reimagining of the rules of Sudokuo, Hexologic is an approachable, easy to play puzzle game with a chilled aesthetic. There’s not a great amount of content here however, with the structured levels lasting just a few hours, but if like number puzzles and you’re looking for a fun way to fill an evening, Hexologic is worth a look.

Whether you’re a Sudoku enthusiast or a new player, Hexologic is a puzzle game that’s easy to pick up and learn. If you’re looking to pick your brains at clever numerical puzzles, this game will keep you busy with its wide selection. It may not be one to try and beat in one go, but it’s definitely worth picking up if you like your Sudoku with a twist.

Hexologic has a simple job and it does it effectively enough. This puzzle game picks up the concept behind Sudoku and advances it to a more fun and compelling level, helping to build a fun and accessible game while not taking its premise too far. It could be longer, as it feels too short at some moments but it's undeniable that fans of puzzle games will have a very fun time thanks to Hexologic.

Hexologic is a wonderful puzzle game that really scratches that part of your brain that yearns to be tested. It’s easy enough for anyone to learn and it really does a fantastic job of introducing new gameplay elements as the game progresses. If you like Picross or Sudoku, then this one is a no-brainer.

After playing so many highly tense puzzlers, Hexologic is a nice change of pace delivering a much more chilled experience that’s as easy to unwind with as it is to pick up. A lack of content might make this a rather short-lived experience but it’s one that feels fair for the low price it asks. The eShop may not exactly be short of puzzlers at the moment but Hexologic’s pleasant vibe and satisfying brainteasers are enough to make this cheaper release worth a look.

Hexologic is a simplistic, relaxing puzzler that combines its calm music with some pleasing aesthetics and rewarding design. Whilst this does mean that it can be relatively easy to complete, it's cheap and makes a nice companion to watching TV or listening to a podcast after a long day. At such a low price point, it's hard to say no to another mobile game enhanced on the Switch.

Hexologic is a simple and enjoyable little number puzzle game. It’s very easy to get into, but beating every puzzle is not so easy. There are a handful of Steam achievements to get in the game as well. There are 60 normal levels and 15 of the harder special levels. I got through all 75 levels in a bit less than 5 hours. That was across multiple play sessions, though. Hexologic is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS. You can get it on Steam for just $2.99. The one downside is that the game feels like it’s over too soon, but it’s a fun little game while it lasts. Can you beat the game and defeat all 15 special levels?

While Hexologic might not be as difficult as they'd have you believe it is still fun and relaxing even in small doses.
