How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

All of Milestone's racers impress and disappoint in the same ways, and that hasn't changed here. MXGP succeeds in catering for both a casual audience and the hardcore fans, but neither will feel particularly satisfied with their serving. That's especially true in the case of MXGP Pro, because the 'Pro' subtitle was bound to raise expectation levels. While minor enhancements are always welcome, it's far too much of an incremental process across iterations here, making it difficult to recommend to anyone who bought MXGP3. The assumed time constraints and the developer's 'one size fits all' approach to generating improvements (where only additions that can be diffused across all its franchises seem to be encouraged) is now a significant source of frustration. While MXGP Pro is mostly an attractive, enjoyable experience, that represents the sport quite well, even avid fans should ponder long and hard over its longstanding flaws before indulging.

Saying that Milestone need to take a step back with its dirt bike games and rework everything is becoming as tired a statement as saying Telltale needs to use a new engine. But it remains true yet again with MXGP Pro. A very slight improvement over MXGP 3, but a noticeable step back from Monster Energy Supercross, MXGP Pro is largely a spectacular disaster. It gets a couple things right, and offers a new slate of tracks to race on, but you'll be too busy slamming your head into a wall to really notice.

MXGP Pro looks nice and has better tutorials and handling than its predecessors, but its consistent glitches and slow load times keep it from being anything more than “alright”.

MXGP PRO is a fun Motocross racing sim with deep levels of customisation but is let down by some odd physics, a steep learning curve and it's similarity to the previous entry into the MXGP series: MXGP 3. If you are a diehard Motocross fan, this game is for you, but for the casual gamer, MXGP PRO probably won't be dynamic enough to hold your attention for long.

MXGP Pro with Unreal engine 4 improving its physics and graphics. But gameplay offers nothing new and it is boring.

This is by far and away the best MXGP game to date, and the result of developer Milestone finally getting to grips with the Unreal Engine, despite the recently disappointing MotoGP 18. MXGP Pro still lacks technical polish and misses the magical 'wow' moments that great racing games feature, but this is now a great platform that they can build upon for the future. The difficulty curve will not be for everyone, but MXGP Pro is all the better for it.

The Italian studio Milestone should be proud of the game they've made. MXGP PRO is an enjoyable and well-made title for both beginners and veterans. Must play for motosport fans.

Milestone could have offered the best motorcycle racing game ever with the MXGP Pro, but despite the dramatic improvements in graphics and gameplay, the game's lack of balance in difficulty, few content make it lie in the middle as one of the games. The experience is good, but not the best. In my opinion, the studio needs a rest period to rearrange its papers and focus on one or two titles a year to give them a better experience, rather than offering more than one medium-level titles.

Maybe next year Milestone will revitalise its career mode just as much has it done the visuals and core game mechanics this year. But until then, simply having the best playing MXGP game will have to do.

MXGP Pro is the best of Milestone's Motocross series of games, that much is certain. It doesn't differ too much from their previous Supercross title, which is a negative, but certainly offers their best outing on two wheels so far.

This is Milestone's best MXGP title to date, improving the graphics, improving the physics, the handling, and the realism, all whilst keeping the title accessible to players of all levels.
