How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Atomfall is an atmospheric, mystery-driven survival game that dares to be different. It’s not the most polished, but it’s one of the most interesting post-apocalyptic games in years. If you enjoy uncovering stories at your own pace and don’t mind a little jank, this one’s worth your time.”

“Combat, stealth, and even exploration could have been handled better, sure, but Atomfall’s themes, atmosphere, and story make for a solid game that lets you forgive some of these issues if you let it.”

“Atomfall is quite an enjoyable game, which will not reach unknown heights, but there will be people who will have fun while playing. You won't find anything unique here, but it combines several familiar elements into a rather fresh mix. If you are a fan of British themes and can turn a blind eye to a few problems then Atomfall will be a tolerable adventure for you.”

“Atomfall is a decent little RPG but it also sports some glaring flaws within its gameplay loop, holding it back from being a fantastic game. The combat and stealth are poor, wildly unbalanced and feature some laughably bad AI. However, the narrative, writing and rewarding open world exploration are really solid, going a long way to balance that scale out. So ultimately, it’s a bit of a mixed bag and a difficult one to score, especially as this is a game you’ll either love or loathe.”

“Atomfall turned out to be a conservative attempt by Rebellion to release an unusual game for the studio. The result was very interesting, although the game is not without a number of serious drawbacks.”

“At first glance, Atomfall is an excellent title that keeps you engaged with its roughly 10 to 15 hours of gameplay. This is mainly due to the interesting setting and the fact that it lets you explore as you see fit, right from the start. However, it only takes a second glance to realise that underneath the rather interesting premise is hiding some pretty mediocre and shallow gameplay that doesn't even come close to using the unique potential of the title, the story, or perhaps even the expertise of Rebellion.”

“I don't think we will see Atomfall in any "best of" lists at the end of the year, but the game nonetheless offers an unexpectedly unique and engaging experience.”

“Atomfall seems to offer an experience built around a well-known formula, but at the end of the day, it manages to shake up any expectations with a totally novel approach. On paper, it seems like a generic copy of other big names in the industry, but far from it, it offers a refreshing and innovative experience. It's a title that's best approached with as little information as possible, and its pace and length make it very interesting to experience.”

“Atomfall is still a journey worth taking and returning to, as using the knowledge gained across the first playthrough will allow you to truly take advantage of the game’s mechanics and savor the resonant little stories that play out within its end-of-the-world patch of England.”

“Atomfall is a good post-apocalypse game, and one that's almost as much of a love letter to United Kingdom culture as Doctor Who, but it ultimately lacks anything to set it apart from its contemporaries.”

“Atomfall blends post-apocalyptic survival with British folklore in a unique narrative-driven open world. The game features exploration, NPC interactions, and challenging inventory mechanics, with impressive graphics and an immersive atmosphere. It’s a promising start for a potential new franchise.”
