How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 78 | 12 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 95% | 90 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 94% | 88 | 46 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 88.6, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 21,503 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“It seems that the transition to Skybound Games’ The Walking Dead has been more beneficial than it might seem at first glance. Not only did we get a high-quality story-driven game that actually lasted a while, but we also got to enjoy the swan song of a beloved character, whose final chapter was simply a resounding success. Clementine saved the entire series, and we can be glad that we can ultimately look back fondly on The Final Season and the entire The Walking Dead game series.”

“Clementine's final season starts out uneven, but the second half provides enough thrills, tension and deliberation to ensure that after seven years The Walking Dead gets a decent farewell.”

“The Walking Dead: The Final Season is a very satisfying ending. Without going into too much detail and spoiling things, it was moving to see that in a world so grim and full of monsters it’s still possible to have a heartwarming moment or two. And possibly best of all to see the book close on this series that began 7 years ago.”

“A brilliant and satisfying conclusion to The Walking Dead: The Final Season, and to the franchise as a whole. Take Us Back explores evocative themes while having emotionally impactful moments as you experience the end of Clementine's journey.”

“After possibly never seeing a true conclusion The Walking Dead: The Final Season - Take Us Back may not be a homerun of a finale but it does deliver an emotionally satisfying experience that brings a long journey to a close.”

“While the studio had been around for years before The Walking Dead, it was really Clementine's and Lee's initial adventure that won the studio lots of acclaim and put them on the map. There were likely many ups and downs for the studio in between, diverging paths that all led to this - the end of the studio as well as The Walking Dead series. So I got to say goodbye to both a studio and a character I cared about when I put down the controller, thankful for the opportunity to be there from beginning to end, even if I might have personally wished a few things had turned out somewhat differently.”

“A tight and taught story that just wouldn't let me go, not until the very end. Most importantly of all, Telltale have delivered on their original remit, to allow players to make meaningful choices that truly effect those around them.”

“The Walking Dead concludes its story and the resulting effort on the Nintendo Switch is certainly a satisfying one, featuring some (welcome) tense and emotive moments, as well as some improvements in the gameplay experience. The game could benefit from less quick time events, though, and some technical issues as well as ups and downs on the plot make its performance somehow patchy at times but the overall conclusion is that this is a very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue.”

“It's so exciting to see Clementine growing up and guiding another child just like what Lee used to do. The ending is depressing but with an amazing twist. If you love the series and care about the destiny of Clementine, you can't miss it.”

“An otherwise strong season drops the ball at the death. Clementine deserved better.”

“Above all though, it's understanding of the series long history and Clementine's journey making its final moments pack one hell of a bite.”
