How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“With a sixth game in series from the same creator, one would expect leaps and bounds of improvements during the course of several years. Sadly, we are still waiting for a great wrestling game to hit our gaming systems. WWE 2K19 offers a lot of things, but most of them are just old stuff with minor improvements or returning additions due to fans outcry. ”

“WWE 2K19 proclaims itself as the best wrestling game until this day. My Career, Towers and the great return of Showcase are enough to keep any fan of the WWE fighting for hours. The dynamic and challenging combats will hook veteran and amateurs fighters alike. There is no doubt at all that 2K has given depth to his wrestling simulator and open a new and exciting path for the franchise. ”

“WWE 2K19 hasn’t changed much at its core, but the smaller alterations to the overall package make it a vastly more enjoyable experience to previous instalments. Introducing a proper story to MyCareer gives players an actual reason to play it this year and it's a genuinely engaging experience. The increased depth of the player creation suite means each superstar feels different from the next, while quality of life improvements in Universe will be music to the ears of diehard fans. All of this adds up to make WWE 2K19 the best entry of this long-running series. ”

“WWE 2K19 is one of the best wrestling games of all time, just because it doesn’t have all the problems suffered by the last chapters of the series. With a renewed Career, hundreds of wrestlers and an enjoyable gameplay, the game is a must for every WWE and wrestling fan.”

“WWE 2K19 might not reach the lofty heights of wrestling video gaming's heyday--or maybe that's just the nostalgia talking--but it's 2K's best effort so far. Maybe next year we'll be on to a true title contender.”

“WWE 2K19 is a solid wrestling game. Gameplay wise, it's leaps and bounds over previous entries. The creation suite is always getting better, and the 2K Showcase mode has never been better. Unfortunately, it's let down by a handful of undercooked modes that desperately need to be fleshed out.”

“WWE 2K19 is one of a kind. But WWE 2K19 does not offer new gameplay mechanics this year.”

“WWE 2K19 is a rebound in the right direction, but it is held back by many long-standing issues.”

“WWE 2K19 still offers incredible content that will hook up any wrestling fan, but sadly, quantity prevails over quality, and the technical side of things and rigid gameplay are enough to repel any gamer that's not fond of the WWE.”

“Is WWE 2K19 championship material? Not quite, but developers Yuke’s and Visual Concepts have made some important strides in the right direction. WWE 2K19 hulks up with some smart new mechanics, a well-produced Daniel Bryan Showcase, and a much-improved MyCareer mode. Does the game still suffer from some in-ring issues and a general lack of polish? Yes, but WWE 2K19 feels like it might just be the first chapter of an inspiring comeback story. ”

“The quality of any given WWE 2K game is a gamble year to year, but 2K19 manages to claw its way up from being buried alive by the travesty of last year's entry. Daniel Bryan's Showcase is a clear highlight as are the mostly welcome mechanical changes. Here's hoping they don't regress again in 2019.”

“2K has definitely listened to the faults of the last WWE by improving some modes and adding a few fun ones. The commentary is still lacking, but 2K Towers is highly entertaining.”
