How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

As it stands, it’s a damn lovely game that nonetheless doesn’t need to be clamored for...Likable, yet not as lovable as it deserves to be...Now rest in peace, PlayStation Vita.

If Tearaway were a diamond in the rough world of Vita gaming before, it's an exceedingly polished masterpiece on the PS4.

Sony made a great decision in bringing this charming IP to PS4. Just like the Vita version, Unfolded has the same great feel of utilizing the hardware in an interesting and fun way.

We would love it if every revision of a game was like Tearaway: Unfolded. Media Molecule has made a great work in order to bring its best version yet to Playstation 4. Even if the best option is to try it on PS Vita, those who can't will be able to jump into the magic with this game.

Tearaway Unfolded is so imaginative that you'll feel yourself wanting to applaud it at points. An occasionally clunky camera and some narrative issues do threaten to screw up this paper-based platformer, but the quirky controls and sheer variety of the gameplay will keep a smile glued to your face.

Tearaway Unfolded may not surpass its predecessor when it comes to quality, but it definitely does when it comes to contents and the way it taps into the qualities of the platform to achieve a level of interaction with the player that is rarely seen.

Tearaway was a big surprise hit for me on the Vita and this remake is bigger, has more content, and more unique ways to progress versus its handheld sibling.

It's delightful to look at, fun to explore, and it does a great job of utilizing various PlayStation features.

Not just a 'director’s cut’ of the original. The new features are worth a purchase even if you played the PS Vita version.

Even if it takes a camera or a mobile device to fully come together, Tearaway Unfolded is a smart, slick reimagining of Media Molecule’s underappreciated gem. The innovative methods by which you can twist, turn, and bend the colorful paper world provide interesting new challenges to wrap your head around, and the already beautiful world has an even bigger allure on the PlayStation 4. It’s just plain fun.

It reimagines many of the ways you interact with the game’s papercraft world and it expands and builds upon some of the ideas in the handheld version, yet never strays too far from what was already a wonderful experience.

A noble effort to recreate one of the PS Vita’s best games on a home console, but the end result never feels quite as elegant or organic as the original.
