How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“With Samurai Warriors 4, Omega Force's other established Musou series finally steps out of the shadow cast by their more revered Dynasty Warriors catalogue.”

“What we have here is a good reflection of the Japanese Sengoku age, something which only Tecmo could do. A lengthy story mode, full of targets on screen, as well as a conquest mode make it a game that you will play for many hours. ”

“Samurai Warriors 4 continues Omega Force's long streak of high-quality Warriors titles. It isn't as exceptionally good as Hyrule Warriors and veers a bit too heavily into button-mashing for its own good, but it remains a fun game to play.”

“Samurai Warriors 4 is a faster, greatly expanded addition to the series. Each character feels fresher, and there's a ton of stuff to do. I just wish the online play would actually be something acceptable for the modern day.”

“Samurai Warriors 4 is a typical musou game, with tons of enemies and crazy on screen action. Both Tecmo Koei and Omega Force have done a good job with the game graphics, but a couple of strange game design details could be hard to understand for the musou hardcore fans.”

“Though it still carries the same old Musou blueprint, and so there’s little to draw in those who dislike its particular brand of hack n’ slash action, there are enough changes to attract any self-respecting fan of the series.”

“If it wasn’t clear from my introduction, then it should be now. Samurai Warriors 4 is Omega Force taking the series forward by recalculating its understanding of the franchise and adapting it to be better at what it does best, supplying none stop badassery, frantic, fast action with improved mechanics to the core gameplay and plenty of content to explore, which in turn shifts the title for best entry in any Warriors game to date into this warlord’s castle.”

“Samurai Warriors 4 takes a little advantage of its port on PS4. It's still kind of old-school, but the game is at last better on a technical point of view. We're still waiting for the episode that will rebuilt from ground zero.”

“Samurai Warriors 4 suffers from the same pratfalls as the rest of the Warriors series on occasion, but the strong offering of content and robust Chronicle mode will keep you interested for quite a while.”

“Arguably the best finger-abuser money can buy. An essential purchase for musou fans. [Christmas 2014, p72]”
