How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Problems aside, I would go so far as to say Dirt 5 isn’t a racing sim at all, more its own unique special blend of racer. It takes the best elements of both arcade and simulation racing, throws them into a blender and whizzes them around until they’ve become something else entirely.”

“Dirt 5 brings new and innovative elements to the series while keeping true to its roots. With enough tracks, dynamic weather, and comunity made maps, Dirt 5 is one of the best racing arcade games you can play at the moment.”

“Dirt 5 is a very good title that revives the arcade racing genre and combines it with nice graphics, music and effects. Even without DLC, the game offers a fairly long career mode, a variety of real cars, well-designed tracks and a mix of different racing events and styles. So if you are one of those gamers who want to race, so to speak, to relax, enjoy the graphics and fine music, Dirt 5 is a clear choice.”

“Codemasters has managed to inject new purpose into the arcade brethren of their DIRT Rally series. With some fun, community-focused game modes DIRT 5 could be great. It is, however, let down by a lacklustre handling model and mostly non-existent force feedback.”

“DIRT 5 fills your screen with confetti and a party atmosphere. But that, sadly doesn’t change the fact that for as hard as Codemasters try, its one of the most lackluster racing games released this year with boring races and uninspired racetracks.”

“If you’re already a fan of the Dirt franchise, there’s little to take issue with here, jump right in. If you’re a racing fan who’s new to the series, though, I can definitely say Dirt 5 is worth a look.”

“Even if you're burned out by simulations like Project CARS 3 (a pretty inferior sequel, to be frank), you should give DIRT 5 a chance if you aim for a simple arcade racing game with great-looking frills, noteworthy challenges, and a straightforward path.”

“All things considered, Dirt 5 delivers with its aesthetically pleasing visuals, tracks, cars, and menu design.”

“Codemasters truly are the experts of their craft. DIRT 5 is a step in a different direction that will be met with some fans not enjoying the rather arcade-style gameplay, but it is absolute joy for those do like this type of fast-fluid party action. There is enough variation in track diversity thanks to the dynamic weather and track terrain conditions to help keep DIRT 5 fresh.”

“DIRT 5 delivers Codemasters' most refined and downright entertaining arcade rally racer yet. It boasts gorgeous visuals, solid gameplay with tight controls, a terrific dynamic weather system, and some lively commentary from Baker and North.”

“I didn’t expect to fall in love with Dirt 5 as much as I did, and despite all the hours I’ve already put into the game, I don’t expect to stop playing anytime soon. Dirt 5 is lighthearted, simple, effective fun that’ll have you racing around again, and again, and again.”
