How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 87 | 35 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 98% | 94 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 84 | 28 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 98% | 94 | 613 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 92.8, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 12,202 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“Combining magic powers with a realistic combat setting is an inspired decision for a strategy game. It brings the tactical view and fanciful powers of a game like Baldur’s Gate 3 into the hard realism of a world beset by private military corporations. The setting is rich enough that I look forward to what Suspicious Developments does in this space going forward, especially if their next outing sees them come back with an even bigger budget for more things like voice acting.”

“Luckily, though, you’ll spend much of Tactical Breach Wizards in the heat of battle, and that’s where it functions best. Few of the scenarios are difficult, and intentionally so; the game is less about raw challenge than having you experiment in pursuit of efficiency and style. Many of the optional, more difficult objectives encourage you to squeeze 15 actions into a single turn or complete a map without letting the enemy ever fire a shot, which means constantly refreshing your actions and movements several times per turn. Even when the characters are patiently waiting their turn, there’s always a remarkable sense of speed to Tactical Breach Wizards.”

“While I wish it was a tad more punishing, I still had a blast orchestrating complicated turns that involved teleporting allies across the map, utilizing diverse powers, and, of course, knocking hapless cronies out windows. But, perhaps its greatest accomplishment is how it escapes the inertia of countless other modern war games that feel like the product of the military-industrial complex. I guess all it took to avoid these tropes was not being in the back pocket of the US armed forces, a bit of empathy, and a guy who looks like Gandalf with a magic-infused M16. Who knew?.”

“Tactical Breach Wizards shines with its charming, laid-back approach to the tactical genre. While not the most demanding game in terms of challenge, it leaves plenty of room for players to shape their experience as they wish. The dynamic progression system and skill flexibility encourage creativity, while allowing each player to develop unique strategies in the face of enemies. This title, while approachable and accessible, especially for those short on time, also has a promising future thanks to the integration of user-generated content. Tactical RPG fans will find here a refreshingly modern experience, rooted in a wacky and irresistible sense of humor, but above all imbued with a rare sincerity.”

“A lack of content isn't an issue here as it might have been with Suspicious Developments first breakout hit, Gunpoint. Tactical Breach Wizards is the largest and most ambitious game the studio has worked on yet, and the extra time it took to get here has certainly not been wasted. It presents familiar tropes of the tactical turn-based genre and removes a lot of the friction that acts as a barrier to entry, without sacrificing the fundamental thrill of formulating a perfect turn and executing it. Coupled with an incredibly personable cast that is brought to life through witty and hilariously written dialogue, and you'll find it hard to resist the urge to breach into battle just one more time after each well-deserved victory.”

“Despite boring story segments, this game finds great humor and ultra-malleable gameplay that breathes fresh air into tactics games.”

“Tactical Breach Wizards made a bold statement when it entered the scene. It showed that great visuals don't require ultra-detailed graphics or flawless animations. It demonstrated that tactical turn-based gameplay can be both fun and challenging without being unforgiving. Most importantly, it proved that when good ideas are executed with creativity and passion, the result is something truly exceptional. With all it's achieved, it's clear that Tactical Breach Wizards has little left to prove.”

“An absurd concept but an inspired turn-based tactics game that, quite unexpectedly, has one of the best scripts of the last 12 months.”
