How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Bendy and the Dark Revival is trying its best to seems impressive and broad, but boring enemies, annoying stalker-type monster and bad stealth semgents really drag the whole experience down, turning this project into a game tailored more for the fans of the original rather than a new audience.

Bendy and the Dark Revival is mediocre, which will be enough for the lay players. However, it will only leave the knowledgeable players wanting to play titles that fail to rip off, both story-wise and stylistically.

By interrogating and reincorporating some of its previous tricks without addressing the fundamental issues, this sequel's more likely to extinguish interest rather than revive it.

Bendy and the Dark Revival is a great example of a sequel improving upon its predecessor in almost every way. For survival horror fans or fans of 50s cartoons, Bendy is a must-play.

Despite its weaknesses, Bendy and the Dark Revival remains a worthy sequel to Bendy and the Ink Machine, and is a contender that can likely stand up to some of 2022's best horror games. Better still, at $29.99 USD, the game is very fairly priced. Sure to appeal to new and returning players alike, Bendy and the Dark Revival is a compelling, well-crafted game that's worth playing for horror fans.

Outside of the combat and questionable controls at times, I was immersed in the world and plan to revisit by playing Bendy and the Ink Machine. This is a good example of not judging a book by its cover, or in my case, a Funko Pop at GameStop.

Bendy and the Dark Revival shows a lot of potential with interesting world-building but is held back by some dull gameplay mechanics.

Bendy and the Dark Revival drowns in its own basic black and white design for survival horror, but manages to amaze players with a more confident sequel to a unique nightmarish satire on all things Disney.

Compared to the recent Security Breach and Hello Neighbor, Bendy and the Dark Revival succeeds at being the better game by having proper level design and, for the most part, proper enemy encounters. It’s a shame it falls flat in so many regards because had it not been for the clumsier BioShock-like gameplay and the port being a spot of frustration, Bendy’s latest retreat could’ve been a solid adventure title. Still, the groundwork is present if not a bit misguided and it’s a good canvas as any to ink future entries onto.

Joey Drew Studios has created a memorable nightmare world of maniacal ‘toons and the dark side of creativity. While its combat and mechanics don’t reach the same level as its setting and narrative, Bendy and the Dark Revival is a must-play for fans of the first game, and an effective introduction to a singular franchise for everyone else.
