How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Evil West is the kind of beautiful trash I wish we had more of. It’s a ridiculous game in service to a purpose no higher than smashing monsters to gloopy bits, and by God do I admire that. While at times combat balance is uneven, any such moment is made up for by a terrific weapon set, extravagant finishers, and an immediacy of offense that ensures the action never wavers.”

“Evil West doesn’t bring significant innovations and has its issues, but it excels in fulfilling what games are meant to do: provide fun for the player. Its combat is extremely satisfying and filled with challenging moments, and when combined with the charismatic characters encountered throughout the campaign, it results in a simple yet enjoyable formula. While it may lack polish in some areas, the overall experience is solid.”

“Evil West is a well-crafted action-adventure game with a brisk pace, a linear storyline, and plenty of action that you’ll really enjoy. The combat system will win you over after a while, and you’ll find yourself looking forward to more and more action. An interesting mix of enemies, which you can take down with your arsenal and a wide range of special abilities, guarantees that you won’t get bored with the game. While the story does become predictable after a while, combined with the gameplay, setting, atmosphere, and action, this is a well-made title that will definitely keep you entertained. This isn’t Cookie Clicker, this is action!”

“Flying Wild Hogs did well here with the Wild West take. Evil West’s flexible combat, challenging fights, and cowboys-versus-vampires setting are enough for me, and probably for you if you need more action games on your PC and console. It does remind me of the old days of 2010s third-person action games, but the good parts.”

“Evil West exceded my expectations. Everyone knew it would be an entertaining action game, nothing more, nothing less. But what we got is the start of a whole new series from Flying Wild Hog. A series that I expect to be on the radar of all players in the future, especially if they realize the flaws I mentioned and fixed them as required. I highly recommend all fans of fast-paced action games to try Evil West right away!”
