How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Even at its grindiest, Destiny 2 remains an oddly compelling adventure...While there's still plenty of room for improvement, I've got say Bungie put its heart into this one, and it definitely shows.”

“Destiny 2 fixes most problems of the first game and becomes number one project for fans of deep and complex cooperative experiences on modern consoles. The game largely met our expectations, and in some aspects even surpassed them. And although developers promised more drama and epic in the main story, campaign satisfied us rather than disappointed. In many respects due to great work with locations and game mechanics, diversity and amazing alien worlds' vistas.”

“The foundation that's Destiny 2 already feels rock-solid, a refinement and reinforcement of Destiny's best elements in every respect.”

“Destiny 2 is a sequel that does its job well: it maintains the winning formula of the first game and adds new features that help to refresh the experience. While it's not a revolution, the game offers a constant evolution that's more accessible to different types of players, with a focus on exploration and dynamic events. For those who have already played the first game, Destiny 2 offers a worthwhile experience, with many hours of content, even if it's not a game-changer. If you like FPS with RPG elements and a good dose of multiplayer, Destiny 2 is definitely a solid choice.”

“Destiny 2 is already such a classic in the world of MMO games. It offers a rich story and a lot of content, supported by regularly released but paid expansions. The plethora of activities makes it an almost undrained well of fun that has captivated many players around the world. However, even this game is not without its missteps, which are not well received by the community. Growing content is being strangled by the removal of the old. Frequent server problems and game crashes also spoil the fun. On the plus side, however, is the constant development and care of the game by the developers and their promise of continued support and creation of new content.”

“At the moment, Destiny 2 does a fantastic job of improving on the strengths of the original game along with bringing some new additions to the table. However, not all of these are good or warranted, marring what could have been a perfect sequel.”

“Destiny 2 fixes a lot of problems from the previous game, but it doesn’t deviate from the original formula. With its lackluster content and little to no innovation, Destiny 2 brings nothing new to the genre but keeps that addictive lootfest gameplay which we all hate to love. ”

“Destiny 2 is more of the same. A little prettier, a little more interesting, a little easier. After playing for dozens of hours I know I'll spend much more time with Destiny 2. There is no better game about shooting aliens that is so much fun. And looking at the first game and its evolution over the years it's hard not to wonder - what kind of game D2 will be in the future? A great one, I'm sure.”

“While new content will drip in over the next couple years, right now you really have to take seriously that Destiny 2 is like a microwave: you know exactly what it does, and it does it well, but you can't expect it to do more than that. It's very hard for me to look at the past five or six years of console and PC games, and then the things that are announced for the next six months, and think that I want to fully integrate Destiny 2 into my life as my primary entertainment appliance. It would be so easy to do so, but the cost of committing to this thing over any other thing seems so high.”

“Destiny 2 symbolises my every needs and wants within a game. Its gameplay is so satisfying and universe so alluring that I will continue to play it and will probably do so for a long time to come. For me the game is no where near the vision Bungie originally conceived for the franchise”
