How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Blair Witch is one of the most unexpected games in genre, which perfectly combines oppressive atmosphere, interesting characters, multi-dimensional plot and beautiful graphics on the PC. If you were looking for the best horror of the year after Resident Evil 2, then you found it.”

“Blair Witch has a great storyline, unfortunately technical issues disturbs the whole atmosphere, and the same applies for the poor level of design, where you unnecessarily spin in circles. You will finish the game in about 5 hours, but it will look like 8 hours, maybe 9 hours. The game is a proof that much more work must be done for a great idea. We recommend at 6 out of 10.”

“Not only does the game cheapen the idea that a dog is man's best friend, it also falls apart like a cheap chew toy.”

“Blair Witch starts off strong, throwing its players into a setting that comes with some pretty terrifying baggage for anyone who's familiar with the film upon which it is based. It's got a handful of fun mechanics, including the absolute star of the show, Bullet, and its story comes on strong towards the end, injecting the final third with some real tension. However, this is also a game that plods along for the most part, making no real use of its spooky setting, instead hemming players into small areas and forcing them to partake in a string of simplistic and rather hackneyed puzzles and busywork at the expense of any real tension. Overall then, Blair Witch is something of a mixed bag; it's not the worst horror game we've played recently, but it also doesn't do enough to earn a hearty recommendation.”

“Bloober Team definitely know their onions. Blair Witch introduces some minor tweaks to a tried and well-known formula, but there’s no trace of true revolution. This horror is fun and scary, but there's also much room for improvement. It's a solid game that makes the future really exciting for the team and their fans.”

“After a thorough analysis of Blair Witch in all its key aspects, we can confidently call it a standout example of modern psychological horror, capable of immersing players in an experience that is both emotionally charged and deeply unsettling. What strikes first is the seamless cohesion between narrative, setting, and gameplay mechanics, elevating the title beyond a mere video game into a true exploration of fear and the human psyche. One of the game’s most remarkable achievements is its ability to maintain constant tension, generated organically by the environment itself: a forest that feels alive, the persistent uncertainty over what is real versus what is a product of Ellis’s imagination, the unsettling ambient sounds, and the interaction with Bullet. This approach creates a deeper, more psychological kind of terror, rooted in perception and imagination rather than relying on cheap jump scares. In this sense, Blair Witch stands out as a mature and contemplative psychological horror experience. Ellis’s personal journey and psychological evolution constitute another major strength. The game makes the player feel the weight of his actions, memories, and traumas, turning the narrative into a deeply intimate experience. The bond with Bullet adds emotional depth and introduces elements of companionship and responsibility, enhancing both empathy and the player’s investment in the story. From a technical and artistic standpoint, the game impresses with its meticulous attention to visual and auditory detail, creating a compelling atmosphere that drives the desire to uncover every secret. Despite minor shortcomings, such as occasional slow-paced sections or AI behavior that could be improved, Blair Witch remains a title I would wholeheartedly recommend, not only to fans of the film but to anyone who appreciates psychological horror and deeply immersive narrative experiences. Its ability to seamlessly weave together atmosphere, tension, storytelling, and world-building makes the game a successful and meaningful experiment within the genre. Ultimately, the experience leaves a lasting impression: it is not just about being scared, but about living fear, feeling it grow, confronting it, and understanding it alongside the protagonist. This total psychological immersion is what makes Blair Witch both memorable and worthy of attention.”

“Blair Witch merges already seen gameplay mechanics, not that great level design and a bad technical aspect with a good atmosphere and great story, making a pleasant horror experience for every fan of the genre.”

“Bloober Team’s misfire takes interesting liberties with the source material but often forgets the terror at the heart of it.”

“Blair Witch is probably best played on other platforms, where the pop-in is not so atrocious, and where the game won't break. The atmosphere during the day time is diminished thanks to the low level detail that generates only a couple of meters away. These glaring flaws hurt Blair Witch from becoming immersive, and the obtuse path to the good ending won't be figured out without a guide. There is potential here, since the foundation is solid, but this version is not easily recommended.”

“The sights and sounds of the forest keep you unsettled, Ellis’ flashbacks and conversations slowly unravel his past, puzzling and combat is nicely interspersed with exploration, and Bullet is one of my new favourite animal companions in a video game.”
