How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

IXION is a base-building strategy game that draws you into the depths of a dark and unexplored universe through a thrilling adventure. The game offers a captivating story, and the way certain events unfold will simply keep you hooked. Managing the Tiqqun space station, which involves overseeing its exterior and controlling six sectors, is simply entertaining. The ability to explore space, colonize planets, and further upgrade the Tiqqun is truly captivating, thanks in part to the game’s visual style. Some players may be put off by the relatively high difficulty in certain stages of the game, but if you give it time, remain patient, and learn from your mistakes, this title becomes a true experience not just for fans of the genre.

As an experience it’s honestly one of the most engaging and engrossing I’ve played this year.

Ixion perhaps could be used as an example of flying so high... and then missing the mark and falling pretty far down. There was so much to recommend and enjoy about the game, especially if only checking the first few hours. But the more you play, the flaws, difficulty, unraveling story, and pretty much everything else frustrates the player to such a degree that many players are not going to finish the game, either due to the difficulty, or simply not wanting to do the same thing for 5 hours and hoping their ship doesn't blow up randomly.

A Sci-Fi survival simulator that has an extraordinary background story that can only be seen in novels of the same genre. While the game has a wide range of content from managing a space station to boldly go where no man has gone before, its excessive complexity and difficulty in management give players as much stress as they give fun.

There is a lot to like about Ixion, it is an atmospheric tale of humanity dealing with the odds and overcoming any obstacle in its path, one way or another. That same difficulty is often too oppressive however, and I feel that it will be a bit of an obstacle for some; in addition, there are a few foibles elsewhere which can make for a frustrating experience and have marked down my enthusiasm. For those who want a challenge though, Ixion will be an excellent and immersive choice.

Even as a console port, IXION is a miserable experience. Obtuse systems, bad narrative design, an all-too short campaign which grinds the player's face in misanthropic loathing - none of it is worth the price tag.

In the end, as a fan of the genre, Ixion is a deep city-building strategy game that puts a bigger focus on story to set itself apart from the competition. So, if you’re familiar with the genre, Ixion is definitely worth a try. Unfortunately, given its current technical issues and less-than-optimal controller-friendly design on console, I can say it’s a decent game with lots of space for improvement. So, for now, if you have the option to experience this game on PC, I strongly suggest that platform as it feels built solely for it.

Beautiful setting and sound design, fantastic story, and perfectly implemented gameplay mechanics make IXION an easy 10 for me.

As a space-style "farming" game, "IXION" presented a cold space world and the space station "Tai Kun". It is not only home for players, but also a carrier for exploration and advancement. The experience of wandering in space with home is quite unique. But beyond this, "IXION" did not bring more surprises to the players. The imperfect details, fast pace in the early and mid-term, and some unreasonable difficulty settings make players easily frustrated.

An enticing premise held back by uneven pacing and glaring technical issues.

The only criticism I can make of the game is that the difficulty is quite high, and if you don't think about your actions, you'll soon be mopping floors instead of driving a space station. [Issue#324]

IXION is truly an excellent title, valid both from a management and strategic point of view and from a narrative one, but with some small gaps that could have made it even better.
