How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Hades is a complete package. The writing will make you laugh, the gameplay will make you smile, the bosses will frustrate you, and the art will make you stare in awe. All of which combined makes Hades a must-play, and once you start, you won’t want to stop.”

“The return of Hades is a true feast, and a great opportunity for PlayStation and Xbox players to dive deep into the waters of River Styx. The escape from the underworld itself is an impossible feat, but it's sure as hell worth a try.”

“Hades has a great story, awesome gameplay and a well-crafted audiovisual. This is exactly what the Rogue-like games genre should look like.”

“Immediately after its release in 2020, Hades caused quite a stir and was a hit with both critics and players. And rightly so. If you’ve fallen in love with the rogue-lite genre, there’s basically no reason to play anything else. Hades has left all its competitors far behind and leads the pack with its gameplay, strong story, likable characters, and pleasantly high difficulty, one that’s challenging without being frustrating.”

“Hades is a masterpiece of carefully considered design which Supergiant has poured its heart and soul into. It delivers on every level.”

“Hades is a sublime mix of satisfyingly gritty and flexible combat, a wonderfully vibrant art style and genuinely fun and engaging narrative. Supergiant Games has an excellent track record thus far but this really does feel its finest hour, a rip-roaring rampage through the underworld that's arrived here on Switch in a port that's nigh-on perfect. Even if you're yet to be swayed by the admittedly repetitive ebb and flow of the roguelike genre, we passionately urge you to at least give this one a try; for fans of the genre or anyone even remotely interested, this is one heavenly vision of hell that we highly recommend you sacrifice yourself to.”

“Supergiant Games has done it again. They have managed to perfectly mix amazing storytelling and great action to create another compelling title. Even if you are not a fan of roguelikes you should definitely try Hades out - it’s a challenge, it has a great story, and it’s a hell of a ride.”

“Do you know what I'm going to do after writing this review? Play Hades again - for fun. It's just so damn good. Maybe I'll be able to escape hell, maybe not, but I'll be happy to try again.”

“Rogue-lites may be an acquired taste for some, but it’s hard to envision a world where Hades isn’t an easy recommendation. By the time credits rolled on the main story, there was plenty more to discover and unlock as well as the desire to do so. It may not have the infinite replayability some of the others in the genre are often considered to have but its focus on narrative and characters will give a satisfying enough conclusion even without all that. It’s a game to lose a night to or play in reasonable chunks and still get something out of. It is Supergiant Games’ best effort by far and that is no small feat.”
