How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 90.7, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 1,121 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

Iron Meat is a fantastic Contra-like shooter. With sharp pixel art, a rocking soundtrack, and intense action, it's a worthy successor to the retro classics.

    "Very meaty and bloody Contra-like."

Iron Meat is a satisfying love letter to the early arcade shooters like Contra and Metal Slug. It features beautifully designed levels, fluid gameplay mechanics, and bosses that are both epic to look at and evenly satisfying to fight. On top of that, it is also accessible for modern players as it tones down the difficulty if you decide to lower it to allow newcomers to enjoy the game as much as hardcore veterans who love to tear it down on the hardest difficulty. If you love playing run-and-gun arcade shooters and want something to test your shooting skills after all these years of playing Metal Slug or Contra, you will love jumping into Iron Meat. Highly recommended for fans of arcade shooters.

A very successful attempt to make an action game in the spirit of Contra series. A fun experience that ends too quickly, but leaves a great lasting impression.

Iron Meat, the run and gun by Ivan Valeryevich Suvorov and Retroware, recaptures the essence of Contra by inviting us to save the planet from an invasion of mutant flesh monstrosities. A proposal that boasts a polished gameplay that has nothing to envy to the classics of the nineties that does not come to revolutionize the genre but, at the end of the day, it is not necessary either since playing it is fun and challenging.

Iron Meat is an excellent example of adrenaline-fueled run-and-gun action. It combines everything that made this genre popular in the ’80s and ’90s while also taking advantage of modern hardware capabilities and introducing its own, primarily visual, ideas. It’s a thrilling ride from start to finish; the only criticism is that it ends too soon.

Iron Meat is a classic run-and-gun that doesn't want to innovate, but simply proposes the best that the genre has to offer, adding a grotesque and ultra-violent design carefully crafted. A great old school pastime that will keep you busy for several hours, depending on how many achievements and characters you intend to unlock and how good you intend to become at playing it.

Even with a short running time and a lack of special set-pieces, Iron Meat does justice to the genre, not to mention its own on-the-nose name.

Iron Meat's gorgeous visuals, solid gameplay mechanics, smooth controls, and a metal af soundtrack work in tandem to deliver an equally challenging and rewarding Shoot ’em Up that does way more than it needs to in order to stand out. Simply majestic.

Iron Meat is an amazing Contra-like that does some things better than the game it is impersonating. I cannot recommend this title enough for fans of that style. It has a rocking soundtrack, outstanding visuals, and perfect controls. Now if you will excuse me, I have some more meat to grind.

Iron Meat will appeal to die-hard fans of this genre who are looking for a nostalgic yet fresh challenge. However, this is a game that doesn't hold back, and not everyone will embrace its ruthless nature.
