How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Plants vs. Zombies: Battle For Neighborville Complete Edition more than lives up to its name. A huge amount of content, lots of replayability, and an overall charming aesthetic make this an easy recommendation for anybody looking for a solid new shooter for their Switch. That said, just bear in mind that it often runs into performance issues and that the single-player offering can prove to be a little repetitive in the long run. If you can get past those issues, this release will surely prove to be worth both your time and money.”

“Fans of online shooters aren't missing much by not playing Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville - Complete Edition, but, truth be told, this is far from a bad game, as long as your expectations aren't very high. Plus, this Complete Edition, is exactly that - very complete, with lots of things to do, whether that's different modes, missions, or character classes.”

“If you're looking for a fun, colourful team shooter with plenty to see and do, Battle for Neighborville could be just the ticket. If you weren't swayed by the prior Garden Warfare titles, you'll likely want to pass on this, but for the sheer silliness of its characters and the world they exist in, it's well worth sinking your teeth (or vines) into. You may never want to leave Neighborville.”

“All in all Plants vs. Zombies - Battle for Neighborville is a worthy timesink if you're looking for a fun, lighthearted multiplayer shooter. It has its issues running on the Switch but there's nothing game-breaking. Though its single-player offerings may quickly wilt, you're still likely to find yourself digging this one up time and time again.”

“Plants vs. Zombies: Battle For Neighborville Complete Edition is really a great game, but the lack of local split-screen multiplayer definitely makes it feel less than complete especially when the other consoles do have it. The story is a lot of fun and If you were just looking to play online then this game is definitely worth checking out.”

“While the art, gameplay and music are fine, it feels like EA made a game so exclusively for children that their parents won't want to play it with them, leaving them to be influenced alone. Even if you can tolerate the tone and have the wherewithal to not spend too much money on DLC, Neighborville is fine. It just won't be your best purchase EVAR.”

Battle for Neighborville builds on its predecessors' fun mechanics and adds a massive new world to explore that takes advantage of its strengths, all the while never forgetting the lighthearted approach that made us fall in love with the franchise in the first place.
