How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| All-time Steam reviews | 80% | 74 | 1000 |

| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 85% | 79 | 538 |

“The locations are too big and there's not enough animals to hunt. The mechanics are fun when everything works, but it's hard to ignore all the faults.”

“The Slovak game Way of the Hunter immerses players in the world of a big-game hunter. It provides a detailed look at this lifestyle and explores both Slovak and American hunting cultures. The game’s sophistication and realism, beyond the animals’ movements and the graphics themselves, are top-notch. For a slightly higher price, you can learn what it’s like to be a hunter, even if you do encounter a few gameplay flaws while hunting.”

““Way of the Hunter” is off to a strong start and with big ambitions in mind. Whilst it falls short of other hunting games in terms of weapons and variety, it more than makes up for it with its beauty, its incredible ballistic system and some of the finest maps I’ve encountered in the genre.”

“Graphics aren't everything for a hunting game, but they're still important. Way of the Hunter's gameplay needs to be improved.”

“Overall Way of the Hunter isn’t perfect. It has some issues other than the save file(s) such as the limited number of guns and equipment which was a little disappointing. It could have also used things like the scent mask sprays or doe urine to lure in bucks. Also, some of the equipment is licensed and others not. You can however bring along two other friends with you by playing online which was good. With all that in mind, Way of the Hunter is a decent hunting game. While the heavy simulation may not be for everyone, I am sure that with some improvements it could be even better down the line. Let’s just hope that it’s not all locked behind DLC.”

“Way of the Hunter provides some well balanced hunting mechanics that make it enticing, while at the same time failing to really deliver a satisfying next generation world.”

“After each direct hit, you can see in slow motion and in great detail which trajectory your bullet traveled, where and with what force it hit the animal, which vital organs were pierced and at what point your poor prey died. No gratuitous violence, but a realistic, almost scientific representation of how you killed that innocent pheasant or that cute little deer. After more than three decades of playing video games, there is very little that makes us uncomfortable, but 'Way of the hunter' occasionally made us gulp.”

“Way of the Hunter provides the authenticity you need to probably have the best virtual hunting experience. Still, it also comes with some baggage, such as a story, which the developer could have placed more emphasis on. When you think about these things, they make the game to be inconsistent overall.”

“The potential behind Way of the Hunter is there to give the likes of the Cabela series a run for its money. It’s just marred with a few too many technical issues that prevent it from being a fun and immersive experience overall. Stuff it and move on to the next quarry instead.”

“Expansion Aurora Shores for hunting simulator Way of the Hunter is an honest and faithful love letter to Alaska's wildlife. New map, animal species, bunch of quality-of-life improvements and of course the new CROSBOWS improve and build upon the well-established formula of the last year's title. There are still a few minor irritations worth fixing but nevertheless, this wonderful simulation of northern nature will surely take your breath away' Good luck hunters!”

“This is a very true to life video game for hunting enthusiasts who actually don’t want to kill animals in real life but some technical problems take the whole experience down a peg or two that sometimes makes you feel like that maybe Way of the Hunter needed a little more time in the oven.”

“Way of the Hunter is an entertaining hunting simulator with a message to convey. The story was charming, and the gameplay was engrossing, though at times it felt like the deer had better detection skills than the hunter.”
