How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“DioField Chronicle is quite difficult to evaluate, because the game really isn’t worth the price the developers are asking for it. The graphics aren’t impressive, the characters are completely emotionless, and there’s really no strategy involved, since you’re constantly forced to make direct attacks. You have virtually no interaction with your companions, and the story is unengaging because you have no motivation.”

“Despite its shortcomings, The DioField Chronicle is still a solid tactical RPG experience with enough JRPG tropes to interest fans of both genres. The unique gameplay provides plenty of challenge, though it can require a lot of grinding to keep pace with the difficulty curve. The art style is beautiful both in and out of combat but the characters and plot fail to live up to the same standard. In this case, its ambition outstretched its means and it fell just short of where it wanted to be.”

“The DioField Chronicle is going to be a polarising game because while it does make use of a number of really solid ideas, it has little to no unique aspects to speak of.”

“The DioField Chronicle’s real time tactical battles are a refreshing addition to an ever-growing genre of tactical RPGs. Battles are addicting and compact, and although it’s not difficult, the many choices and upgrades keeps it engaging throughout its 25–30-hour playtime.”

“If you're hankering for a new SRPG to play, The DioField Chronicle barely scratches that itch but there are worse ways to spend your time.”

“All in all, The DioField Chronicle is a decent strategy RPG. Its characters certainly won't live long in the memory, and it can be a an unnecessary grind, but it's well crafted and fairly engaging on the battlefield.”

“We found The DioField Chronicle to be a fresh, interesting and entertaining strategy game. There are several details that could be polished, but in the end its strengths shine enough to be insignificant. We are talking about a game that genre enthusiasts will want to try.”

“A unique approach to tactical RPG combat makes The DioField Chronicle a solid offering that lacks a worthwhile story and cast of characters to make the most of the game’s strengths.”

“The Diofield Chronicles has a solid foundation of mechanics that is hampered greatly by its poor balancing of difficulty, a cast of forgettable characters and a world that failed to draw me in with its lackluster presentation.”

“The combat system is what will keep most people going until the end, with the multitude of tactics one can think of and the combinations. What will tire you is the repetitive structure of the missions, as well as the lack of social elements that would develop the relationships of the characters and, by extension, the gameplay.”

“The attempt of adopting the element of a real-time tactical battle into a strategic RPG was good. While attractive characters and main stories are its strength, the narrative and approach to lead the story seem to fail to reveal its charm. More to that, individuality of the game's battle is faded due to systematic limits and there are few strategic elements. Despite these problems, you will be able to enjoy it if it suits your taste.”

“Maybe it's not quite as good as it could possibly be, as The Diofield Chronicle contain more ambitious ideas, but it's still a fun experience and I really hope it gets a sequel that addresses its design flaws and gives us a more interesting story based on what happened at the end of the game. I would recommend buying it when you get a good discount, as with current full price of the game I don't feel it's worth it.”
