How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Obsidian’s brilliant use of their flaws system in The Outer Worlds 2 makes it stand out as one of the best examples of how to encourage roleplaying in video games. Playing through this game really felt like I was breaking out of the shell that most other RPGs put me in. The world, its various factions, and characters all enhance this by encouraging you to make your own choices about who to be and what to do. Ultimately, this makes the game well worth your time, but also flawed in its own way, with occasionally frustrating combat, and a serviceable story to follow.”

“The Outer Worlds 2 is a solid game that I can recommend to any fan of sci-fi RPGs. Obsidian has done a great job here, and it's definitely a step up from the previous installment in the series. Of course, it's still far from perfect, but you can see that the team is gradually learning from its mistakes, and hopefully they will bring the series to perfection as a trilogy.”

“Obsidian Entertainment studio has provided us with one of the best, most enjoyable, and most distinctive experiences of the year. The Outer Worlds 2 was a unique experience with its own special enjoyment through what it offered in terms of story, narrative style, and addressing political and economic systems in a satirical manner. However, it places you in a serious stage between factions to choose the policy you see as correct and confront the rest of the factions through distinctive and diverse missions using unique weapons and large varieties, or through stealth methods, and perhaps by persuasion, lying, cooperation, and providing services to obtain facilities. This confrontation takes place in the Arcadia colony, which contained carefully designed areas with a charming and breathtaking artistic direction and numerous exploration sites. The journey continued with high graphics quality and stable technical performance, but physics were absent in the game world.”

“The Outer Worlds 2 - это яркое и самобытное приключение, которое заставляет вспомнить о былом величии Obsidian Entertainment.”

“The Outer Worlds 2 feels like another season of a beloved TV series, only this time with a bigger budget. Everything you loved about the first game is here, but many of its problems and flaws have been fixed. If you’ve played Avowed, you can expect something very similar in terms of the game’s technical systems. And if you’re among those who complain about everything Obsidian has made since the days of New Vegas, you’ll probably complain about this too. As for me, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It delivered exactly what I hoped for, fixed what I criticized in the first installment, and the problematic moments weren’t big enough to spoil the experience. At the same time, if you haven’t played the original, there’s no need to, the story stands on its own, the characters are new, and the setting is entirely fresh, so the game works beautifully even by itself. But if you have played it, your return to this insane, corruption-soaked, corporation-ridden sci-fi world will be every bit as enjoyable as mine.”

“There’s so little value in making this series feel like Yet Another Bethesda RPG, and zero in making the player carry water for capitalism in 2025. This is mechanical prowess in service of a galaxy that’s not worth saving.”

“The Outer Worlds 2 is a more expansive sequel to the space RPG, featuring a more sophisticated combat system. The wide selection of weapons, mods, and gadgets adds excitement to the shootouts. The ability to customize your character using the flaws the game offers you along the way is also a highlight. If you’re in the mood for fun action packed with combat or stealth and enjoy gradually upgrading your hero, you definitely won’t be bored. However, the story and characters lack depth, the ever-present humor sometimes does more harm than good, and the visuals aren’t anything special. The Outer Worlds 2 is enjoyable, but it won’t blow you away.”

“The Outer Worlds 2 is okay, and perhaps that is its biggest flaw, it is unable to match either its powerful rivals or New Vegas, to which it is merely derivative. In a year packed with excellent games, it's hard to justify buying it when there are so many great, cheaper RPGs out there.”

“Despite all of its environmental detail, scope, and promise of a wider, more exciting space-faring adventure, The Outer Worlds 2 is a disappointment. While it offers divergence and choice, its paper-thin satire, tonal mishmash, and balancing oddities see the experience crumble under the weight. In addition, the review build’s far too many immersion-destroying bugs, blocked questlines, and other sequence breaks ensure that the game’s issues outweigh its redeeming qualities.”

“Refined in every single way, The Outer Worlds 2 is not simply a better sequel: it’s the new gold standard in the narrative FPS genre.”

“While The Outer Worlds 2 doesn’t reinvent the formula, its deep role-playing systems and engaging companions offer strong replay value. The witty, if sometimes heavy-handed, writing and player-driven choices make it a worthwhile RPG despite weak combat.”
