How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Although Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered does include a handful or two of ideas and ghosts from the first two movies, it does a great job of explaining things enough that someone unfamiliar with the franchise can pick it up and play.”

“The brunt of the work here has gone into raising the game's resolution and frame rate, and implementing higher quality assets all around.”

“Mechanically-speaking, there's little you haven’t seen elsewhere, but it’s a good-looking, fun third-person romp dripping in slimy nostalgia, and the chance to spend time in the company of these old friends, some of them dearly departed, is too good to pass up if you've ever strapped on your school backpack and gone out to catch ghosts in the garden.”

“If you've ever thought it would be cool to strap on a proton pack and join the likes of Peter, Egon, Ray, and Winston to bust some ghosts this may be a thrill for you...”

“Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is elevated thanks to its cast and writers. This could have gone so wrong in so many ways but it ended up being one of the better movie tie-in games made in the seventh console generation.”

“As an officially licensed instalment in a beloved franchise, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is still a resounding success ten years on. But as a third-person shooter with physics-based ghost capturing, it's a bit one-note. The atmosphere, design, and voice cast are perfect, but the combat peaks early and quickly become a bore. The main campaign is enjoyable enough that it's worth enduring the repetition, though.”

“A fun story, excellent voice work from the original cast, and a nice new shine to the visuals, all making the campaign feel solid. The removal of multiplayer and a lack of polish on the cutscenes make this feel a little rushed, though. If you are a fan of the brand, you will enjoy this game, but if you never really cared for the Ghostbusters, then this won't change your mind.”

“For a budget priced remaster, it’s still a fun time, especially if you’re a fan of the Ghostbusters.”

“Ghostbusters The Video Game Remastered, unfortunately still have the same problems of the original game. Cumbersome movement animastions are not fun. This game still is the most authentic Ghostbusters experience.”

“Those quibbles aside, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is a welcome treat this close to Halloween. Having the likenesses and original voice actors reprising their roles in this game when it first came out was a major win for the development team, and it still puts a smile on my face today. The shooting mechanics are a bit clumsy, but that plays into the collateral damage aspect of the game, which is hilarious at times. Some aspects have aged better than overs, but overall fans of the Ghostbusters franchise will undoubtedly enjoy what this game has to offer.”

“Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is a double-edged sword. It does a lot of things right with the story and atmosphere, but the gameplay is mediocre to good, with many flaws around the companion AI, which often ruins the experience. Since the fun multiplayer component of the original release isn't included yet, this game is only for serious fans of the movie or the original game.”

“Despite lingering technical hiccups and some underwhelming storytelling decisions, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is worth checking out for any fan of the franchise.”
