How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“I had quite high expectations for Commandos: Origins. I wasn't disappointed in the most important aspect - it's a good stealth game, in which quietly eliminating enemies is rewarded and even desired. However, I cannot turn a blind eye to its archaisms and poor technical aspects.”

“For reasons unknown to us, Commandos: Origins turned out to be a very archaic game that feels drawn out, terribly linear and incredibly tedious. Don't forget about a bunch of bugs.”

“With Commandos: Origins, Claymore Game Studios marks the return to the iconic saga that pioneered the combination of strategy and stealth in a game that lives up to the original trilogy. It is a love letter to the genre, to nostalgia, and to itself. It is a title that treats the franchise and its fans with great respect. A video game that definitely does not reinvent the wheel, but neither does it seek to do so.”

“For as big and ambitious as its levels may be, the most reliable way to progress in Commandos: Origins is a tedious process of luring each guard to his doom, one at a time.”

“Commandos: Origins is a successful return to the roots of the famous series, which comes back to life with this title. Intuitive controls and the ability to manipulate the camera enhance the game’s playability while opening up new possibilities for interacting with the environment and timing your actions. The game is undoubtedly a solid addition to the series, though it loses some points due to minor bugs, its straightforward nature, and a near-total lack of depth.”

“Commandos: Origins is a game with a big heart but (apparently) small budget. It transported me well into the past, and that’s both a good and a bad thing. We get some nice and warm nostalgia next to some really rusty gameplay mechanics. All in all, I got quite a bit of fun from plaiyng Origins but I can recommend it only to the veterans of the genre craving anything new.”

“''Even if it doesn't revolutionize the genre, Commandos: Origins is a well-written love letter to its past, and with a couple of patches and a few more tweaks, it could become a benchmark title for tactical stealth fans. The game is a is a surprisingly solid return for one of the most beloved tactical series of the '90s. Kalypso and Claymore Game Studios have managed to revive the spirit of the saga, modernizing it just enough to make it appealing to a younger audience, without betraying the expectations of longtime fans.''”

“Commandos: Origins nails the real-time strategy aspects and enhances them by bringing excellent sandbox elements. Sadly, the many bugs and technical issues will frustrate even the most dedicated players out there.”

“One of the celebrities of the RTT genre returns in a modern flavour”

“Commandos: Origins aims to take players back to the glory days of PC gaming when niche strategy games thrived, and it almost succeeds. The changes made to make the game suit a modern player base are good and well appreciated, even by veterans like me. But, in its current condition, there are just way too many bugs for the game to be enjoyed properly. I’d recommend waiting for a few patches to drop and then getting it on sale. It’s good to see Commandos back in action!”

“Mistakes on established systems and minor oversights significantly reduce the experience of a decent effort.”

“Commandos: Origins is a striking return to the roots of the classic 90's franchise, bringing back real-time tactical gameplay focused on stealth and strategy. Serving as a prequel to the previous games, the title offers 14 missions set in historical World War II scenarios, where every decision demands surgical precision. Visually modest but functional, the game honors its legacy with precise and challenging mechanics.”
