How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Terribly balanced, broken in several ways, and barely able to support the online mode it’s pushing, Sker Ritual is a waste of time. If you like Maid of Sker you don’t need this poor follow-up, and if you like COD: Zombies you don’t need this poor facsimile. Nobody and nothing needs Sker Ritual’s bullshit, least of all Sker Ritual.

"Sker Ritual" is an old-school turn-based shooter that doesn't quite fulfil the dream of a classic zombie mode. Although the game has its own fresh ideas, it fails in terms of performance.

Leaving aside its connection with its survival horror forebear, Sker Ritual is a very conventional and competent multiplayer zombie shooter. It is at its best with a full team of friends who are prepared for its relentless pace and transparently “gamey” nature. Those looking for a more cerebral experience, or one that satisfies narratively, ought to look elsewhere.

Sker Ritual isn’t perfect, then, but for co-op shooter fans, especially those who have dug the Zombie modes in Call of Duty titles in the past, there’s a hell of a lot to like. There’s impressive enemy variety, each map very much has its own theme and unique quirks, and mechanically it’s very rewarding. It’s just a shame that it can feel a little too overwhelming at times, and that there are some technical issues to iron out.

Overall, Sker Ritual was a lot more of what I wanted and way more than I could have expected from it. Is this going to be a Call of Duty: Zombies killer? Maybe not as of now, but it’s clearly a really good step in the right direction, as that series simply doesn’t care about having to improve anymore. Even though it’s completely different from its predecessor, Sker Ritual is a pleasant surprise, a well-polished game, and something I definitely plan to continue returning to often, especially if there are any big content updates in the future.

Sker Ritual copies the Zombies concept of Call of Duty and throws its own sauce over it. This results in a pretty fun title that excels mainly in its level design and gameplay with friends. Still, it has a lot of shortcomings. For example, the story is nothing, at times it is unfair and technically rough. Also, the game is rather ugly, which is a shame. Not a must have, but if you're in for a Zombie-esque adventure, you'll be fine here.

Sker Ritual responds to the incessant demand from COD Zombies orphans by offering a game that traces almost every part of the mode presented by Treyarch sixteen years ago. If you're a fan of co-operative FPS titles and don't mind a few momentary technical glitches, Sker Ritual is a product not to be missed, all the more so if you spent hours upon hours in Call of Duty's undead-filled maps.

Sker Ritual has a lot of good, strong bones as a round-based horde shooter, it's very easy to be having fun while playing and to recognize the things that it does well. Despite that it still feels half-baked, due to balancing issues, sound issues, technical issues, and an overall lack of polish. But if you can see past those rough edges, and you've been a COD: Zombies fan for years, then Sker Ritual is something you shouldn't miss out on.

Sker Ritual would have been easier to get along with if it had its own identity. It plays well and is genuinely entertaining, but if the developers are going to treat their work as a totally transient effort to exploit and leap on the money train, then I’m going to treat the game in-kind. The creative vision behind this game is so shallow and unformed that the game will be forgotten in a few years.

Sker Ritual is a classic horror cooperative shooter (also playable in single player) in which you'll find elements already seen in similar games, from Call of Duty's Zombie mode to Left 4 Dead and Killing Floor. Technical issued highlighted the need for updates to make the gaming experience smoother and more satisfying. We also hope that the developers will get busy releasing new content in the near future because the four maps now available quickly tend towards repetitiveness.

It may not have the visual flair and marvelous shooting of Treyarch’s creations, on top of some annoying connection woes at launch, but since they seemingly abandoned the classic formula, Sker Ritual satisfyingly fills that classic Zombies-shaped hole in our hearts, proposing a fun game, already packed with content and quite cheap. Do we need much more? All in all, it’s a very promising start for Sker Ritual, I’m eager to see patches, balance changes, DLCs or even a sequel tackle the few shortcomings, because, underneath it all, it has all the elements that made us fall in love with the Zombies formula and then some. Bravo!

Overall, Sker Ritual is a half-decent online shooter hamstrung by matchmaking issues and a player base on par with the number of dog walkers you’ll bump into when going for a stroll along the blustery stretch of Welsh coastline the game is based on.
