How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Doraemon's second Story of Seasons outing is another crossover event that's likely to appeal to fans of both Doraemon and Story of Seasons. It looks fantastic and has a deep narrative, however the story can get it in the way of the actual farming at times.

Even though Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom doesn't offer much to separate itself from the first game, there's no denying it is a wholesome bundle of farming fun that still manages to carve out its own identity compared to other life and farming sims. Outside of the cutscenes which drag on and then some, it never feels too repetitive - an issue a considerable number of farming sims face thanks to the crop-based tasks associated with the genre - and outside of navigation issues with the map, it's welcoming to both new players of the genre and still feels relatively fresh to those who are incredibly familiar with the Story of Seasons franchise. If you go into this game expecting a decent Doraemon farming sim, you won't be disappointed.

Friends of the Great Kingdom is a great game to chill out with, providing so much whimsy and silliness that it’s hard not to grin like a fool when playing it. Even though not all of the new content is a home run, it feels like the Doraemon Story of Seasons series has finally found its footing with room to blossom even further.

While it’s slow to get started, and doesn’t break much new farming sim ground, you can’t deny the game’s charm

While an enjoyable and relaxing title, Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom needs some major improvements when it comes to translation and some graphical and gameplay elements. Nevertheless, it is not unplayable, and those who enjoyed the first game will also have a good time with it.

A pleasant and aesthetically pleasing way to pass the time, though it suffers from some pacing and quality-of-life issues that prevent it from being fully relaxing. Switch version reviewed.

Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom looks beautiful because of the anime style. As beautiful as it looks, it all feels very tiring. You are often doing the same thing and therefore you will never entertain yourself for hours because your attention span goes down quickly. Nevertheless, it is especially nice to play in between if you are tired of the larger games.

Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friend of the Great Kingdom is a delightful follow-up to the first game that brings a wealth of improvements. You don’t need prior knowledge of the properties either to enjoy this and can hop right in and start farming, fishing, socializing, and more with no problems. It is missing some things that Story of Seasons fans may want like romance and some other systems can be improved but this is a great farming experience nonetheless.

Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom is a heartwarming game. I enjoyed my time on Illuma, even though it passes slowly.

DORAEMON STORY OF SEASONS: Friends of the Great Kingdom is an extremely cozy experience. It's easy to become immersed in its world and attached to the characters, them being from the classic series or new to the game, and it's always a pleasure to see your farm evolving, even getting giant vegetables or putting your favorite animals in competitions on event days. The partnership between the two IPs here is very well executed, with the gameplay of Story of Seasons being a great way to tell the type of emotional story in here, which brings different reflections and teachings that Doraemon usually proposes. The only issue is the constant interruption of your activities for a new conversation that we are not always in the mood to listen to.

Doraemon: Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom is an enjoyable sequel with some great improvements, but it falls short of the franchise's full potential.

I didn’t realize how much I needed a game like Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom until I started playing it. The gorgeous watercolor visuals, soothing soundtrack, relaxing gameplay, and loveable cast of characters makes it an easy game to keep coming back to. If you need a break from brutal dungeon crawlers and difficult deck builders like I did, or if you just need something peaceful to float away with, I couldn’t recommend Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom more.
