How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 76 | 12 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 66% | 64 | 600 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 52% | 54 | 2 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“Full-Motion Video games are very much back on the scene, and while there's no question that the quality of the production value and general game designs have improved since they originally cropped up decades ago there's no getting around their pretty hit-or-miss nature...”

“Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus? is a cool title that will keep you busy for a few hours. The plot is well put together and everything is explained if you manage to get the best ending. The fact that it's always the same poison and the same suspect will cause the majority of players to move on as soon as the right conclusion is found. Even though some evidences are obtained in a sort of unpredictable way, I had a lot of fun carrying out the investigation.”

“One of the best FMV games to be released in years, ‘Who Pressed Mute On Uncle Marcus?’ is a brilliant combination of a relatable, oddball comedy and a whodunit mystery drama. The acting is superb, the script and editing is tight, it’s deeply replayable and it manages to balance its tone to take you on a really cathartic journey.”

“The performances are riding on ridiculous but make the game lively and enjoyable. It's a somewhat entertaining but forgettable couple of hours that could be made more accessible with the options to speed up dialogue.”

“Not a terrible way to kill a few hours and certainly better than most of Wales Interactive’s recent FMV projects, but still sullied by presentational flaws and unremarkable storytelling.”

“Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus? feels like a return to form for Good Gate Media. It’s fun, silly and entertaining, and even when the acting is a bit hammy, it’s good enough that it’ll keep you watching. It’s more fun than an actual Zoom family quiz, that’s for sure.”

“Who Pressed Mute On Uncle Marcus is that it is a great little game if you have a couple of hours spare and you don’t mind doing a little detective work. The acting is great and the different personalities of the characters make it fun and you actually laugh along with them. This game for me is perfect for a Saturday night with a loved one and a takeaway. The thought process and the writing is great. That is why I’m going to give Who Pressed Mute On Uncle Marcus the Thumb Culture Gold Award.”

“I never considered stopping this ride until I’d saved Uncle Marcus. The core mystery here is fascinating and had its hooks in me until the end, while the entertaining cast made me want to go back and see every alternate ending. Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus? doesn’t reinvent much, but its a well-executed FMV title that should satisfy anyone who’s a fan of the genre.”
