How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Dungeons 4 is an absurd game but in a very good way. It’s goofy nature and humorous narration complete the package for me more than the actual progression and RTS gameplay though. But don’t get me wrong, those things are good and honestly, they are engaging enough that even without its silliness and fourth-wall-breaking antics, I would still have fun getting slogged down on each of its campaign scenarios.

I couldn’t make it more than two minutes without being bombarded with some form of immersion breaking technical issues. Dungeons 4 is by no means a bad game, but it’s incredibly difficult to play on the Switch, especially in handheld mode.

Dungeons 4 doesn't raise the bar for the dungeon-building subgenre, but it's a delightful fantasy romp that harkens back to less complicated times, and that's quite valuable on its own.

Dungeons 4 is probably the best entry in the Dungeons series. The game isn’t for everyone, but it is phenomenal, with outstanding voice-acting and story to gameplay that is both satisfying and challenging. Dungeons 4 is a must-play for fans of the genre or for players who want to live out their evil overlord power fantasy.

A fine continuation of a successful series, but you can see that the authors are sticking to this theme longer and slowly running out of ideas. The fun is kept up by a good campaign with elements of humour and you might even try out the co-op. This time it's still enough. But the developers might not consider a fifth installment, even though it's their most successful brand, because the fatigue of the material would probably show significantly.

Some poor scriptwriting is easily forgiven because this is a fun and engaging title. Perhaps not a game of the year contender, but definitely worth picking up.

Dungeons 4 is pretty safe as sequels go, adding new features and bigger maps while upping the visual quality. The story is forgettable, the humor dreadful and the performance on Xbox Series X is questionable, but it still offers some addictive gameplay.

Dungeons 4 doesn't evolve the series formula much, but it still manages to refine the experience with some new additions to make everything more fun.

Dungeons 4 looks set to be the biggest sequel to an already great series of releases while maintaining the same level of over-the-top quality and brilliant story. Though it’s also one the most of the most fleshed-out games out there with so much to keep you sucked in, whether you’re looking for a good story or just some strategy with a challenge, you’ll likely get exactly what you’re after.

It is extremely fun to play, funny and strategic at the same time. Not to mention a little bit addictive.

Dungeons 4 was the gaming palette cleanser I didn’t know I was looking for. Its story is nonsense told very well, but its gameplay loop is practiced, iterated, and masterful. Mission and map design is unique with varied and distinct units. It could be easy for the game to be too much or complex is instead the first RTS I’ve ever played with a controller that actually felt comfortable.

Dungeons 4 hasn’t changed a whole lot, but it is far more refined. Realmforge Studios have really found their stride here. The game balances challenge with power fantasy that just works so well. It continues the wonderful escapades of underground excavation with the best of real-time strategy, and that’s turtling to steamroll the enemies. Dungeons 4 does Dungeon Keeper legacy proud, and is a devilishly good time.
