How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Miasma Chronicles is a step up from the poor Corruption 2029. The game can offer you an interesting setting and characters with some cool tactical systems, but at the same time there is straight up broken gameplay elements and lots of bugs, at least on the console versions.”

“Miasma Chronicles is an enjoyable isometric tactical RPG set in a rather original post-apocalyptic setting. During combat, you have the option to make things easier on yourself by quietly eliminating some of the diverse range of enemies from ambush. When it comes to the main battle against an entire group, it follows the classic turn-based combat formula, which is a well-established standard for this genre and works well. Compared to other titles in the same genre, however, the selection of skills for your characters is somewhat limited. The locations you’ll explore are truly diverse and appealing; each has its own charm and, thanks to the sound design, a distinctive atmosphere. However, interaction with the environment and other characters is somewhat weak, and while the dialogues include choices, they don’t have a significant impact on the story’s progression. If you enjoyed Mutant Year Zero and are a fan of tactical turn-based RPGs, Miasma Chronicles will definitely keep you entertained.”

“The world-building and presentation offer much to take in and enjoy, while the combat is deep and sound, with tons of variables to constantly keep up with that can turn the tide of battle at a moment’s notice.”

“Miasma Chronicles is The Bearded Ladies' third XCOM-like game set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and it's arguably their best one yet. It has lots of flaws, but many of those can be fixed with future patches. The developer continued to improve their mastery with the niche gameplay combo of tactical turn-based strategy mixed with stealth, and this game is an example of that. It's still worth playing in spite of being hampered by the weight of its ambition.”

“Miasma Chronicles take the ideas introduced in Mutant Year Zero and polishes them to a shine. What results is a beautiful (though trope-ish) and lore-filled post-apocalyptic adventure with plenty of challenging handcrafted combat scenarios that will surely give master tacticians a run for their money. It goes without saying that if you liked its predecessor, you’ll surely love this one. There are improvements to be made in the performance and bug department to be sure. But, all in due course, I suppose. The ladies with beards have struck gold once again.”

“There's a kernel of a fantastic tactical role playing game in Miasma Chronicles, but it lacks polish in a few key areas, and while the lore and the characters are endearing in their own right the overarching fiction that binds it all together disappoints.”

“Miasma Chronicles has interesting ideas and great ambition but it could do with a bit more attention to detail.”

“Miasma Chronicles isn’t far removed from the studios previous outing with Mutant Year Zero in neither setting or gameplay. That doesn’t mean however that it’s a bad game at all, Miasma feels more polished and nuanced than its predecessor which speaks volumes of the talent at the studio. However, for me the narrative wasn’t as strong as the world itself which wasn’t helped by the feeling of an abrupt ending to the whole affair. But Miasma Chronicles remains a good time due to the mix of tactical strategy and stealth gameplay.”

“Miasma Chronicles is truly like no other and is not comparable to anything else in its genre. The world is fleshed out and feels alive, and the gameplay, with its steep learning curve, offers variety and flexibility that’s not seen anywhere else. Miasma Chronicles is definitely worth your time, and you should definitely give the game a try.”

“Miasma Chronicles takes the turn-based strategy formula and throws on additional layers of stealth to enforce guerilla-warfare strategies. It largely succeeds in this goal, ensuring players take in their surroundings while taking out as many enemies as they can. When combat starts, you use various abilities and character strengths to survive. This gameplay immerses you well, making you want to plan out your next strategy as soon as possible. There are some flaws in the gameplay, such as abilities and environmental objects not working as intended. It's also too easy to accidentally commit to a mistake while looking over the battlefield. But there are more strengths than weaknesses that allow Miasma Chronicles to deliver a fun strategic experience.”

“A serviceable tactics game lumbered with an uninspiring setting and narrative, brought right down by bigoted stereotypes.”

“Miasma Chronicles is a satisfying combination of story and tactical gameplay. With its ambient audio textures and high quality graphics, you’ll find your time quickly taken over by immersive combat.”
