How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Gundam Breaker 4 offers return to form for the series and demonstrates time and again that it knows the importance of focusing on its strengths. Though its middling graphics and somewhat repetitive gameplay can hold it back a bit, the incredibly deep customisation options, snappy combat, and near-endless replayability make this the kind of game that'll get its hooks in you deep once it clicks. If you're into Gundam, we'd suggest you pick this one up when you get the chance, especially if you're looking for a content-rich and relatively low-investment action game to add to your Switch library.”

“Gundam Breaker 4 takes you to the virtual world dedicated to Gunpla. The customisation of the model kit is very well done and allows you to choose from a huge and comprehensive catalogue of parts in High Grade and Super Deformed scale. However, the gameplay suffers from incredible technical shortcomings, while many game design choices make the title fall into repetitiveness.”

“Gundam Breakers 4 is a return to action-slash-build-a-Gundam/Mobile Suit form after a long hiatus; the less said about New Gundam Breakers, the better. The combat is still fast and fun, with great controls and speedy gameplay. The plethora of GunPla base models and bits means no two Gundams online will be the same, both in aesthetics and practical use. The story mode is a great introduction to the Gundam Breakers process, though its missions could use more variety. But a few dud pieces aren't going to ruin the whole model.”

“Overall, Gundam Breaker 4 can be considered a must-play experience for Gundam fans. For others, if you can overlook some of the game’s issues, you’ll find a charming title that, thanks to its addictive gameplay and unparalleled customization options, will provide you with many fun and joyful moments. Perhaps if the game were offered at a lower price, some of its flaws wouldn’t be as noticeable; however, such issues are not acceptable for a sixty-dollar title.”

“Gundam Breaker 4 is a title that undoubtedly serves as a great tribute to the entire Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, living up to the legacy created by the world's most famous mecha series. The massive amount of parts for customization and the Diorama Mode make GB 4 the ultimate Gunpla creator.”

“I couldn't help but think of a game like Custom Robo and wish that Gundam Breaker was willing to commit to a more adventurous, almost Pokemon-like experience. A game where you actually explore a world, engaging in Gunpla battles as an RPG encounter mechanic, rather than selecting them from a list. Gundam Breaker 4 is good, but it feels like there is an obvious path to be something more.”

“Gundam Breaker 4 is a game for fans of the franchise, and it's a darn good one. It even eclipses Gundam Breaker 3 in terms of customization options and the sheer fun that it offers. It's definitely a huge step up from New Gundam Breaker. It's a "create your own digital Gunpla" game first and a beat-'em-up second, but it's difficult to deny the fun of creating the most absurd mech you can and then using it to beat the living crud out of swarms of bad guys. If you like Gundam, Gundam Breaker 4 is probably the best available title for English-speaking audiences.”

“There’s a lot to love about Gundam Breaker 4 as it returns to the roots of the franchise in successful fashion. This game provides lots of engaging combat encounters thanks to its tried-and-tested mechanics that it borrows from Gundam Breaker 3, albeit with new additions. Perhaps the best thing about it is the customization system which offers an addictive experience for Gundam fans and Gunpla collectors. It’s also great that the in-depth customization is great not only for combat but also for the Diorama and Photo modes which are cool additions. Plus, even more casual Gundam fans can have fun here as the story mode is quite engaging. Sure, the combat could be smoother, and the missions can feel a bit samey, but these are minor issues overall. As such, Gundam Breaker 4 is a great return to form for the series that Gunpla builders will definitely love.”

“GUNDAM BREAKER 4 is a shockingly acceptable and genuine sequel to the acclaimed Gundam Breaker 3. However, that does not mean it is exceptional by any measure. In fact, the entire product feels too risk-averse to warrant any special attention. The only aspects in its favor are the Gundam Breaker series’ Gunpla assembly feature and its commendable audio. Otherwise, it is an unremarkable mecha game that feels more suited to the past than as a modern sequel to one of the best Gundam games released in the past decade.”
