How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 91.8, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 531 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is an OK release overall. This 20-or-so-hour adventure has an admirable quantity of content, but the quality amongst the individual episodes is inconsistent. I found only two of the five to be the sort I'd want to replay. Still, Sam & Max are great characters. Pick up their earlier adventure, Sam & Max Save the World, to get an idea if this one is for you.

It's tricky to review games like this, especially re-releases where many will already know if they want it. The Telltale formula hadn't been scaled back to "interactive cinema" yet, so you're dealing with clunky puzzles and somewhat clunky delivery of clunky comedy, but you might love it. In a sense, each to their own. As a port it's difficult to fault, but as a game it's really no great shakes. But then again, if you dig that lagomorph, it doesn't need to be.

Oh, Sam & Max, I simply can't resist your weirdo humor, references, and charm...

Although Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space doesn't hit the same highs as Save the World or Hit the Road, Skunkape Games has managed to offer up yet another compelling remaster. Purists are bound to baulk at some of the changes, but nothing is to the point where Season Two outright suffers. If nothing else, Beyond Time and Space is a better remaster than its predecessor, which bodes quite well for Sam & Max. Telltale has come a long way since the mid-2000s, but Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered radiates a sense of style, charm, and ingenuity the studio lost with time.

Other than the puzzle conundrum, the second season offers more of what made the series a hit. Fans of the first season will greatly enjoy this second run. While it isn't necessary to play the first one to jump on this wagon, it is highly recommended, as there are plenty of returning characters and in-game jokes and references that you might miss if you have not played the first one yet.

With a visual update that brings the graphics much closer to what's expected in our days, a delightfully humorous plot, and a difficulty level that's easily adjustable to all sorts of players, Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space fits great on the Nintendo Switch catalogue, and it brings a lovely experience to anyone playing it, whether on a television screen or on the Nintendo Switch own screen.

Sam and Max are still crazy and that's the main reason why you will still enjoy this absurd point and click classic.

Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is another classic comedic caper for Steve Purcell’s iconic detective duo. Some of the goofs are a tad dated, but the rather consistent hilarity and one-of-a-kind tone make it one of the crown jewels of TellTale’s catalogue.

Another great remastering of an already-great title. There isn't too much new here, but it looks lovely and minor quality of life improvements make the difference. If you haven't got the original then this is one to pick up and if you have it's still worth it to play it at its best.

I enjoyed my playthrough of Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space in the beginning of the game. Unfortunately, about halfway through, the game struggled to hold my attention. But then that could be because I have developed a hatred of Max and his annoying voice. For folk who have played the first remastered Sam & Max game, there aren’t too many new surprises in store for them in this sequel. It’s more of the same zany scripts, storyline, sarcastic and acid humour that fans of the series like.

Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered is a great follow-up to the first entry in the series, but continuity means it's not the most accessible for newcomers.

As someone who played the Sam & Max games back when they first released, I am really loving diving back into these wacky adventures with all of the new quality of life upgrades. I highly recommend Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered for fans of the series. If you’ve never played them before, but like point-and-click adventures and have a twisted sense of humor, then I highly recommend them for you as well.
