How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 81 | 16 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 96% | 92 | 326 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | – | 0 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 95% | 90 | 123 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 89.1, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 653 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“Love, Ghostie is a heartwarming and gentle game about love, acceptance, and connection all filtered through the eyes of a ghost with a big heart. It's not long or complex, but it doesn't need to be. It's a relaxing game that you play when you want to unwind.”

“Overall, Love, Ghostie is exactly what it looks like on the tin: An adorable little slice of life full of charming characters you’ll get to know over the course of your adventure. While it doesn’t take long at all to reach the credits, the real fun comes from seeing all the various combinations, which greatly increases the run time. It’s not especially deep or demanding, but not everything needs to be that way. It’s cozy, and sometimes that’s precisely what one needs.”

“Love, Ghostie is basically a game for folks who play games like Fire Emblem or The Sims because they want to pair characters up in relationships. It’s incredibly compelling! I beat it in a single sitting over the course of a few hours. It’s relaxing! There’s no pressure. It’s also got a ton of replay value, even though there are only 12 characters, since they can all get together.”

“For a first-time developer, Janbeh Games has created such a lovely and cute time for fans of the cosy/wholesome genre. While a short game, it can be replayed multiple times just to find out the different couples and what each of their stories are like. Love, Ghostie is a pretty simple plot, and the art style is adorable, with each of the 12 characters’ aesthetics really shining through. The music embodies the mood, awkward dates sound … awkward, and when your ghost is tired the music sounds deeper. It’s really creative and helps evoke those feelings. Love, Ghostie is a tonne of fun and adorable. If Janbeh Games keeps up with this quality in future games, they’ll certainly be one to keep your eye on.”

“Love, Ghostie is a very cute and cozy game. It is somewhat short but has a lot of replayability potential. We have 12 characters to mix and match, which makes for up to 65 potential couples and storylines. With its pleasant music and cute characters, as well as skip dialogue options, it makes for a very relaxing and fun afternoon playthrough”

“Love, Ghostie provides a lovely cozy experience where everyone can find love. Pair couples however you want and take as long as you need. Everything you do helps boost relationships and you see your efforts pay off. There is lots of experimentation and progress is slow at first. Love, Ghostie makes relationship pairing fun and is a must-try for any cozy romance player.”

“Plenty of its in-game elements are executed perfectly, as demonstrated by the depth of each character. Nonetheless, this wholesome journey ends all too soon, with that conclusion mired in predictability.”

“It’s every bit as shallow as the dating shows that inspired it, so if that’s the kind of game you’re after, and the continued popularity of the genre shows some people are, then this may be right up your alley.”

“Love, Ghostie is a surprisingly heartfelt and humorous matchmaking sim that blends emotional depth with charming everyday moments in a ghostly shared flat. Despite the lack of real consequences for failed dates, its polished Switch port and engaging design make it a standout indie experience worth taking on the go.”
