How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“I’m afraid it will take at least several weeks until WRC achieves a state where we can call it fully playable. But even then, will it be worth 50 bucks? If you desperately need a new rally game and don’t require a full-fledged simulator, then the answer can be positive. The game has very rich content and a captivating gameplay loop so you can expect dozens of hours of fun. If you haven’t played all the available rally games, then I suggest trying them first.”

“EA SPORTS WRC is a really good game that contains a lot of great stuff for rally fans, but the technical problems don't quite make for a good first impression. If you're after a good licensed WRC game then you've come to the right place, but I recommend waiting a few weeks until the developers notice their mistakes and start patching them as soon as possible.”

“EA Sports WRC is a very approachable rally experience with a wide variety of modes, but for seasoned fans, it might be a bit too vanilla and lacking in thrills.”

“For me, EA Sports WRC lays the foundations for what Codemasters wants to offer. Offered at a lower price than most AAA titles, it features a complete career mode with the introduction of the 3 main categories. The on-track sensations are quite good, with an accomplished visual rendering. Nevertheless, and despite the presence of several accessibility options, the game does not offer the possibility of restarting a portion of a special stage. As a result, you have to continue to the end or start from the beginning. A surprising choice, especially as this is a fairly recurrent option in games of the genre. Chaotic menus and a lack of finish in certain areas may also disappoint players. The game is aimed primarily at fans of the old DiRT Rally series, without taking any risks. The base is there, now it's time to improve it!”

“EA Sports WRC combines Codemasters' off-road racing pedigree with officially licensed cars, teams, and locations. The result is a confident and robust rally game that boasts super-fun driving, intense and challenging stages, and all the modes you could expect. It's only really let down by technical and performance problems. Here's hoping those will be ironed out in due course, because this is otherwise a rewarding rally game that gets (nearly) everything right.”

“EA Sports WRC is the first of its kind and although the result is bittersweet, it has solid foundations that could take the franchise to a better level. The legacy of Colin McRae's installments is there, Codemasters was a guardian of it for 2 decades and, of course, there is a vote of confidence for what they will do in future editions. Unfortunately, this debut is not what was expected and amounts to a bump in the road after a period of good results in their racing game launches. EA Sports WRC isn't unplayable, nor is it a disaster, but it's far from great, although there is room for improvement with the passage of time and updates, so perhaps you could consider it for later.”

“EA Sports WRC is a rally simulation that does its core elements well, but has problems that overshadow that.”

“Even though it's easier to get started than Dirt Rally, the title will demand a lot from you. If you can handle that, you'll have a fun racing game for many hours.”

“If you're looking for a game that's one step further than Need for Speed, realistic racing, but with a simulation level that's a little lower than F1 games, I recommend you give EA Sports WRC a chance.”

“EA Sports WRC is definitely not a let down and is a more than worthy successor to Dirt Rally 2.0. Even though I had some concerns about a new game engine and wondered if that gameplay would translate, thankfully those fears were unfounded. Make no mistake, this is a solid racing game featuring plenty of cars, plenty of locations (plus loads of stages within them) and excellent gameplay be that via wheel or pad.”
