How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 89.4, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 4,715 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

ANTONBLAST jumped out of the blue two years after its kickstarter campaign and definitely showed what it was capable of. It is a great platformer game in the style of the Wario Land series, which presents this gameplay model in its own style, while not being afraid to take risky directions. Without a doubt, this is one of the best platformer games of this year.

A fun platformer with timeless gameplay. It will be fun for those who enjoy fast-paced games where you only stop occasionally to find secrets.

Antonblast is a delightful and silly platformer that successfully captures the spirit of those retro Wario-style games while still introducing some modern and fun twists. The fluid gameplay, vibrant visuals, and engaging mechanics make it a great pick for anyone who loves a good 2D challenge. The game can get pretty brutal and visually confusing, but its strengths far outweigh these minor issues, making Antonblast a fun and rewarding adventure.

Appropriately enough, given that Anton and Annie are demolitionists, Antonblast is a wild deconstruction of other platformers, one that throws caution to the wind to maximum effect.

Antonblast is a great tribute to Nintendo's Wario Land series with its madcap action and focus on gameplay variety. The cartoonish visuals, high replayability, and overall spectacle of the experience make this one well worth a recommendation, though we'd temper this by saying that it really needs some work on its Switch performance. Whether on Switch or elsewhere, we'd suggest you pick this one up if you're at all a fan of Nintendo's other Italian mascot and are looking for a well-made and fast-paced new 2D platformer-Antonblast has got it where it counts and is well-deserving of a spot in your library.

I was relieved to find a fun and funky game that just wants to have fun and let the player wade in its weirdness. It might have its annoyances (of which there are a few), but Antonblast is a fine example of a solid indie action platformer. It doesn’t hit many of the heights of its influences and contemporaries, but is a game that’s worth plowing through in its own right. If you can handle some of the rougher aspects of the game, this is something that I can reccommend. Platformer junkies, indie fans, and people who enjoy weird and wacky platformers will find Antonblast be something worth blasting through.

Antonblast proves to be a title that, while remaining firmly rooted in the roots of classic platformers, manages to stand out thanks to its chaotic, destructive and personality-rich soul. With frenetic and well-structured gameplay, a highly polished art department and a sound design perfectly in tune with the action, the game offers an immersive experience for fans of the genre. Despite a few minor technical bugs and a learning curve that may be challenging, Antonblast presents itself as a successful homage to the platformers of yesteryear, capable of winning over both nostalgic and new players alike.

It ain't as spectacular as Pizza Tower -a fair comparison given how good that 2023 indie gem was- but Antonblast is still a damn fine 2D platforming and action title that stands on its own red little feet.

ANTONBLAST is a high-octane (alcoholic) platform title, ready to challenge players and, at the same time, has a peculiar and very successful artistic direction. I had in my hands the perfect mix of what would be a perfect Cartoon Network game in the 90s.

Antonblast comes with a glowing recommendation for all fans of 2d action - platformers. With a protagonist more rowdy than Wario, tight controls, blistering action, satisfying level variety and spectacular boss fights, what's there not to love?

Antonblast is an incredibly odd, yet rather absorbing platformer. Despite its audacious presentation, there is a surprisingly skillful platformer underneath the over-the-top chaos of its visuals that fans of speedrunning and mastery over a game’s mechanics will be sure to greatly enjoy. Not all of the level gimmicks work as well as others, but considering the amount of imagination which has been squeezed into this 10-ish hour experience, it’s hard to come away from the game without a smile on your face. If you’re a fan of Crash Bandicoot or the old Wario Land games, or just really like well-designed and memorable 2D platformers, Antonblast is a tonne of fun and an easy recommend.
