How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

I’m someone who has a lot of fun playing with balls, so you can take it as high praise when I say Ball x Pit’s been some of the best fun I’ve had with a handful of orbs this year. Combining a block breaker with a survive ‘em up is brilliant, the pinball city building is a giggle, and the inventiveness that runs throughout the entire production is utterly brilliant.

Overall, Ball X Pit is one of the most fun games I've played this year. The bouncing-ball mechanic is a game-changer. Couple the addictive gameplay with the upgradeable characters and light sim elements, and Ball X Pit is easy to recommend.

Amid the chaos of dozens of balls bouncing across the screen and the reconstruction of New Ballbylon, Kenny Sun has given us one of the most profound, fresh, and addictive roguelites of 2025. BALL x PIT successfully bridges the gap between the Atari era and contemporary design. It takes a mechanic that seemed extinct and injects it with new energy, proving that you don’t need cutting-edge graphics or multimillion-dollar budgets to create a fantastic video game.

Ball x Pit is a tremendous brew of so many ideas it ought to collapse under the confusion. However, it operates in such perfect balance that it appeals both to the one-more-go instinct and to more cerebral planning and creativity. Kenny Sun Studios set itself a heck of a challenge but, fortunately, hasn't dropped the ball.

“Ball X Pit” is a “must-have” for arcade and / or roguelite fans. Kenny Sun shows that meta progression is a tool rather than a necessity and delivers fantastic and satisfying gameplay with great (and insane) ball synergies. Get ready to see the day, or night, pass in the blink of an eye. And if you’re a fan of leaderboards like me, you’ll going to have a great time.

Ball X Pit does get grindy and repetitious halfway through, especially when it comes to levelling up to match each new stage's difficulty curve. But when you're pinging balls and combining power-ups to make the most devastating attacks possible with just ricocheting and slinging metal spheres down enemy throats, you can't put the controller down. The gameplay loop is truly a blast through and through.

Undeniably different, and trying to spin a lot of plates at once, it manages to be quite a challenge, but not everything completely clicks

Ball x Pit came out of left field for me, and completely blew me away with its charming visuals and addictive gameplay loop. It's the ultimate time waster and will keep you hooked for hours at a time. Definitely one of the must-play titles of 2025, and everyone can pick it up and enjoy it.

BALL x PIT is the most competent and entertaining survivor game I've played so far and it particularly impressed me with its ideas that aren't part of the genre usually. But in the end it's still too much survivor-like elements that tainted the experience for me. The combination of alleyway and bullet hell elements are really clever, at least when the characters weren't completely breaking the game. The city management aspect, in particular, motivated me to invest significantly more time than I probably would have without it. Technically, the game is virtually flawless, though a little less flashing lights and garish color palette certainly wouldn't have hurt.

It's designed in such a way that you're constantly given reasons to keep playing, and runs are short enough that it's easy to excuse "just one more". The game is so cleverly done and so moreish to play that fans of roguelites and quick-fire arcade fun simply have to check it out.
