How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| Metacritic user ratings | – | 79 | 10 |

“My time spent with Speedrunners on the Switch was more than enough to change my mind from my previous impression. Overall, it's a solid game for single players, but local co-op is a blast and should be welcome at any gaming party.”

“If you're after a new addition to your social multiplayer pile, this is an easy sell. Sure, it's a little old considering its long history on myriad platforms, but it's hard to deny just how enjoyable and easy it is to pick up, even for younger Nintendo Switch owners. The support for local and online multiplayer is great, as is the ability to play through the story mode solo, but the intermittent issues with performance in handheld mode does put a few wrinkles in this hero's costume.”

“Featuring simple gameplay, SpeedRunners becomes increasingly challenging the longer the player manages to survive in a level. The special items increase competitiveness and make matches more dynamic.”

“This is one of those popular indie titles that seemed like a natural fit for the Switch so it's odd that it took so long to get here but I'm glad it has arrived...”

“SpeedRunners is the very definition of couch co-op excitement. Getting together 3 other friends and racing around a track, with physics and controls this tight, is thoroughly enjoyable. While the art may be a miss, and some further explanation of the game would definitely help, this is a game that is definitely meant to be explored with other players. Get a group together, and get ready to take off, because SpeedRunners is doing anything but slowing down.”

“However, the lack of multiple modes and sparse single player content make this package feel like more of a mini-game. With the Switch hosting hundreds of multiplayer games that deliver a similar but fuller experience, like Runbow, it's hard to recommend this one. If you're looking for a more robust multiplayer experience, you may want to look elsewhere.”

“SpeedRunners has finally made its way to consoles and we're very happy about it. It's not perfect, and is very much one experience, but it's going to keep you busy as hell if you stick at it and is a cracker of a local multiplayer. Don't miss it.”

“SpeedRunners is a quick classic. It pulls the bests parts of several genres into one game.”

“While I will admit I'm not a fan of speedrunning games, I will say this game will definitely appeal to the speedrunning community because of the challenge, as well as to regular gamers alike. The game is certainly not for everyone, but there is a lot of fun to be had with this fast-paced and action packed release!”

“It may be simple, but it has plenty to offer thanks to its addictive gameplay, and its welcome addition of level creation makes for nearly endless replayability. Speedrunners is definitely a must-have game if you want something light-hearted to play with friends, or even make friends with online matches. ”

“A very funny party game, full of speed and adrenaline, but created only to be a multiplayer experience.”
