How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

RoadCraft is not just SnowRunner with cranes. It’s a smart reimagining of what off-road sims can be. By making construction the core focus, it opens up a creative, rewarding, and satisfying gameplay loop that plays like PowerWash Simulator meets SimCity, with the physics muscle of Saber’s prior work. It’s a meditative, methodical experience that shines brightest in co-op but holds up solo, too. And while it stumbles in a few areas, namely UI and AI, its foundation is rock solid.

RoadCraft is closer to building sims than to being the successor of transporting goods through difficult terrain. Perhaps thanks to this, I really enjoyed playing.

In practice, Roadcraft should be recognized as a very enjoyable offshoot of the franchise that is designed to showcase the new version of Swarm Engine and appeal to a more casual audience. A solid fleet of cars and new features will keep you entertained for several dozen hours.

RoadCraft got scared of the mud that was too soft and decided to shift into reverse. On one hand, Saber Interactive is finally bringing the ability to build roads and bridges. On the other hand, it simplifies the core mechanics. Still, even slight improvements to physics and visuals are a welcome touch.

RoadCraft successfully reimagines the MudRunner formula, for the most part. Instead of just transporting cargo, we now focus on restoring devastated locations, watching their transformation in real time. While some old frustrating mechanics have been replaced with new ones tied to convoys, there's hope that these can be relatively quickly addressed with patches.

Roadcraft isn’t a game that will blow everyone away, but if you give it a chance, it will reward you with an experience that’s rare in the gaming world. It’s not a game about winning, but about craftsmanship. It’s about precision and progress. If you enjoy watching chaos turn into order, mud turn into a road, and yourself become a better player, this is the game for you. At a time when games are often overflowing with content yet fail to leave a lasting impression, Roadcraft is a refreshing return to simplicity and focus. Every project has a beginning, a process, and a result, and that result carries real weight here. And in the end, you can simply say, “I made this.”

RoadCraft, despite a few controversial changes and shortcomings, strikes me as a way more engaging title than SnowRunner. This is a very welcoming game for beginners, and one that gives much more satisfaction upon completing tasks. And it is also a brand new, very potent basis to expand the franchise. Right now it provides dozens of hours, and it only should get better.

RoadCraft is one of the most niche games out there. It offers an unmatched sandbox building experience with an emphasis on realistic driving, but it suffers from many glitches and bugs, and is also one of the least solo-friendly games in the series.

The game features a diverse range of vehicles, from fast exploration vehicles to massive trucks. Each vehicle is perfectly designed for its specific purpose. The exploration vehicles are light and fast, essential for exploring the map, while the large trucks handle heavy work such as building bridges, paving roads, and transporting massive loads across the map. The game offers a wide variety of vehicles, and you'll enjoy its open-world nature whether you're playing alone or with friends for hours on end.

RoadCraft celebrates construction in a way I’ve never seen before in a video game. It shines a light on the frankly ridiculous amount of work that goes into the process, offering a fresh and grounded perspective. If you’ve been put off by the traversal-heavy aspects of previous games, RoadCraft still includes that, but its larger focus is clearly on operating heavy machinery and vehicles.

RoadCraft won't please everyone. It's slow, methodical and sometimes temperamental. However, for those who like demanding simulation experiences, with a real learning curve and gratification at every step, it's a work in progress well worth the detour. Despite its technical shortcomings and some questionable parameter choices, the game rests on a solid foundation, thought through with seriousness and passion. Clearly, this time we have a worthy successor to SnowRunner.

RoadCraft is a high-quality simulator focused on road construction. Its wide variety of levels and machinery, along with the fun of controlling them, and of course, the environmental and mechanical challenges involved in operating the vehicles and completing tasks, all come together to make it a standout simulator. Despite some technical issues and a clunky user interface, I definitely recommend it to fans of this genre.
