How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 88 | 87 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 98% | 93 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 86 | 70 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 97% | 92 | 1003 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |
Acclaim gate: the raw blend lands at 92.0, but scores above 88 must be earned in front of a mass audience; this verdict rests on 9,689 player reviews, a largely self-selected fanbase. As more players weigh in, the ceiling rises (full scale unlocks at 100,000 reviews).

“With frenetic gameplay, retro wave music and a succession of colorful flashing images, Mullet MadJack is a shooter that makes adrenaline flow from the pores. A title that manages to break through, with pure kick, lead and freneticism, placing itself on the podium as one of the best experiences of 2024, demonstrating that it is what it takes to succeed in the genre.”

“Mullet MadJack is, without a doubt, the best experience I've had in 2024 up until the moment I'm writing this review. I already knew I could expect good things from the game, since frenetic boomer shooters are a type of game I love passionately, but I didn't expect it to click so well with me. Its criticisms of the system, the retrowave aesthetic with anime influences, and the synthwave soundtrack fit together masterfully, creating an incredible experience that you don't see every day. Now, I want a mullet.”

“Mullet MadJack is proof that this as-yet-unnamed subgenre, which emerged from the somewhat niche Post Void, has now reached a stage where it can appeal to a broad gaming audience. Shooting robot billionaires at a frantic pace is incredibly fun and almost addictive. Moreover, the Brazilian developers have managed to come up with a distinctive art style that draws on the often-exploited Japanese and ’80s cultures, yet avoids the common fetishizing stereotypes.”

“Mullet Madjack is a simple but fun and frantic FPS with a great stylized approach and engaging gameplay. The game has retrofuture anime vibes that come with great music and atmosphere. It might not blow you away, but it will give you an opportunity to play as a power fantasy 80s movie action hero. Who could say no to that? ”

“MULLET MADJACK is an excellent shooter that skillfully and passionately captures the essence of classic OAV anime at their expressive peak. The game impresses with its visual power, supported by high-quality graphics and solid, engaging gameplay. However, it is important to note that the learning curve can initially be steep, posing a significant challenge for newcomers. Overall, it remains a thoroughly worthwhile experience that we highly recommend trying.”

“Mullet MadJack emerges as a striking and intense experience, rooted in the legacy of cyberpunk anime's creative and artistic zenith. Its narrative subtly critiques the perils of artificial intelligence, transhumanism, and the multifaceted nature of addiction, seamlessly integrating these themes into the gameplay. Far from a simplistic excuse for destruction, the premise carries substance, delivering its commentary with a sharp, knowing edge. Compounded by its wry wit, it's one of the most original, gripping, and addictive first-person shooters of all time.”

“A wild, stylish ride that sacrifices depth for maximum impact, and mostly nails the landing. If you’ve got Game Pass, there’s no excuse. Boot it up, grow a mullet, and get mad.”

“Mullet Madjack is a breakneck action package that never ceases to impress. Despite being quite challenging, it never stoops to the point of being unfair or frustrating. I would have loved to see more levels, more upgrades and more boss fights, but what’s on offer here is extremely captivating. Plus, the regional pricing is pretty reasonable as well.”
