How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

| Metacritic user ratings | – | 83 | 265 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 80% | 74 | 3000 |

“REANIMAL is a triumph. It takes the formula Tarsier perfected and injects it with adrenaline, vehicle combat, and a darker, grittier aesthetic. The cooperative mechanics are engaging, the world is terrifyingly realized, and the creature designs will fuel nightmares for weeks. While the ending feels like a sudden slap in the face, the quality of the ride leading up to it is undeniable. If you have a friend and a strong stomach, this is an essential play. Just don't trust the sheep.”

“Reanimal is a great horror game that can crush the player with its atmosphere. Beautiful visuals combined with atmospheric audio give us an unforgettable experience that cannot be found anywhere else. If you need to feel a little fear for two evenings, Reanimal is the perfect choice.”

“The game offers a horror experience that relies heavily on atmosphere and artistic design, and it truly succeeds in creating a constant sense of tension and mystery from the first moments until the end, where the visual and audio aspects work in clear harmony to enhance the feeling of dread and continuous anxiety. On the other hand, it suffers from weak level design and a lack of puzzles that could have added greater depth to the experience, in addition to the repetition of chases in a way that makes them lose their impact over time, as well as a superficial combat system that was not sufficiently utilized to be an effective and influential element in the gameplay. It is an enjoyable game in terms of atmosphere and artistic presentation, but it could have been much better if more focus had been placed on level design, diversifying the gameplay, and granting the player more varied tools and challenges that enhance the value of the experience as a whole.”

“Reanimal delivers strong atmosphere and deliciously macabre visuals, but its short runtime (2–4 hours) and steep £35 price make it difficult to recommend at full cost.”

“Reanimal has delivered what Little Nightmares III could not. Tarsier Studios has shed the constraints imposed by the Little Nightmares universe, subjecting its audience to an emotional bombardment while simultaneously pushing them out of their comfort zone.”

“The game does everything it says on the tin, not much more or less.”

“Reanimal is a dark, uncompromising, and exceptionally atmospheric game that proves Tarsier Studios is capable of creating compelling worlds even outside the Little Nightmares franchise. The game offers an intense and psychologically challenging experience, so it’s not for everyone. However, those who dare to enter will be rewarded with one of the most striking horror experiences of recent years.”

“With Reanimal, Tarsier Studios delivers its darkest, boldest work yet. Expanding on the Little Nightmares formula with non-linear exploration, striking audiovisual design, and bombastic set pieces, this is an imaginative horror experience that confidently delivers its vision while offering accessible co-op play that fans of the developer have long clamoured for.”

“A 3D horror experience from the creators of Little Nightmares: Reanimal. Does it push the genre forward with cinematic atmosphere and co-op mechanics?”

“REANIMAL feels like a natural extension to the Little Nightmares franchise. It boasts stunning visuals, strong atmosphere and several genuinely memorable moments. However, uneven pacing, a dull first chapter, clunky controls, technical issues and poor PS5 performance hold it back from true greatness. It's a good horror adventure overall, but one that's more likely to be remembered for its frustrations than its brilliance.”

“Reanimal is a very cinematic experience, in which platform and co-op mechanics are simply an addition. The plot takes centre stage here, and the themes and experiences suggested by the authors are probably more mature and serious than those in Little Nightmares. Reanimal is definitely a ‘big nightmare’ and the most bizarre, atmospheric game you will be able to play this year.”
