How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“REMATCH is a messy, joyful, competitive football experience that manages to feel both nostalgic and fresh. It recaptures the spirit of pick-up football with friends while delivering a high-skill arcade sports game that rewards practice and coordination. It’s not perfect, there are bugs, balance quirks, and the lack of offline content is a sore point, but it's an undeniably fun and engaging game with strong foundations.”

“Rematch clearly benefits from the developers’ experience with movement systems. The controls feel highly polished and responsive. That said, the game isn’t without flaws. Occasional server issues can disrupt the experience, and a more meaningful single-player mode is currently missing. But the potential here is massive.”

“Currently Rematch feels like an early access game. Great engaging gameplay is paired with wonky servers and lack of basic features.”

“Rematch is one of the most interesting soccer experiences in recent years, focused solely on fun while still maintaining a certain level of competition. Its foundation is solid, and there's plenty of room for improvement and new features. However, despite the guaranteed fun, this is one of those cases where it's worth waiting for a promotion, as its price, considering the content available at launch, seems a bit unreasonable for a live service. In any case, it's up to you to decide how much fun you're worth!”

“From the studio's perspective, Rematch is certainly a bold gambit. The multiplayer space is a crowded one and players are already entrenched in their preferred titles. Many would have expected Sloclap to follow-up Sifu with a sequel or yet another martial arts game. But with Rematch, the developer has tried to infuse its expertise with games involving physical combat into a football pitch. The result is a crunchingly satisfying experience that combines action and arcade sports convincingly. Afterall, a football match is a fight, too.”

“Rematch is an ode to football. It is a fun, adrenaline-filled experience that possesses a steep learning curve, but also provides a huge payoff to anyone who dives into its deep, yet simple systems. It suffers from a lack of content and not-so-small net code issues and bugs, but it is a refreshing take on the sport that many fans will appreciate and enjoy.”

“Rematch is an interesting game. Even losing a match makes you want to try again, and when you team up with players that like to cooperate, it can be one of the most beautiful gaming experiences. I think even gamers not keen on football can find lots of fun here.”

“Rematch is that type of game that makes you forget to breathe in crucial moments. Despite its current technical problems and lack of content, the playable foundation is so solid that it's easy to forgive its flaws. It's a title that understands that football, in essence, is about teamwork, strategy, and those moments of individual brilliance that emerge within collective play.”

“Limited launch content aside, Sloclap's mechanical deviations from the status quo successfully distill the beautiful game's essence.”

“Rematch is an addictive blend of Rocket League and real football that's sure to prove a hit on Xbox Game Pass and beyond. The difficult controls might put some people off in the early hours, but its "just one more game" feel should keep most playing beyond the teething period - and that's when it really comes into its own. The developers have done a fantastic job with this one, and I can't wait to see how it evolves in the weeks, months and years to come.”

“Rematch is a very fun game but also an experiment that still needs more ideas to coalesce into a greater whole.”

“I still believe Rematch is a game-changer in the football-video game genre that has an extensive global market, allowing for a great reception. But the fundamental problem of making strangers work as a team exists more than it should, and forces a major change before the game becomes a piece of history. Otherwise, everything else is super-fun, especially playing with a full squad of friends.”
