How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |

| All-time Steam reviews | 88% | 82 | 1000 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 82 | 98 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 89% | 83 | 1630 |

“Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is an ambitious game that'll delight fans of the series and CRPGs in general, but not on the Switch 2. Bugs and performance issues abound, constantly slowing down the already intricate story and party management systems.”

“Rogue Trader is one of the best games in Warhammer 40,000 universe despite all its flaws”

“Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader really is a tale of two games. When the game first launched, it was rough to play. Framerate issues, freezing, and crashing all plagued the initial release on the Switch 2. Since its release, however, there has been a patch that has resolved many of these issues. My review score is based on the patched experience. If you already own the game on the Switch 2, it is worth giving it another go, as many of the issues have been addressed. If you are thinking about picking it up for the first time, the game is in a much better state now than it was at launch. I just wish the game had been given an extra two to three weeks to fix these issues before its initial release.”

“With Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Owlcat Games invites us on a space odyssey that immerses us in a dark and complex universe, in an RPG full of action, intrigue, and moral decisions. A title full of epic moments, decisions that shape the fate of entire star systems, and a very well-told story. A video game created by a passionate team that had the vision to bring to life an ambitious role-playing experience set in Warhammer. And they succeeded.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a cracking bit of turn-based Warhammer action that delivers big on strategic and atmospheric combat whilst also serving you a top-notch, choice-driven narrative and campaign. Hooray. However! This Switch 2 port, at release, is a borderline disaster, and not something I recommend anyone pick up until it's had some patching done.A constantly stuttering frame rate, long loading times, unresponsive and laggy menus and controls, a huge graphical downgrade, and hard crashes aplenty make for a mess of a port. Let's hope they fix it up, because for now, it's a hard pass for a great game.”

“Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader was, besides Baldur’s Gate 3, my most anticipated game of 2023. Owlcat did an amazing job on Wrath of the Righteous and I expected that they would nail the Rogue Trader fantasy. Unfortunately, a lot of changes, bugs and a severe lack of voice acting completely ejects me from the immersion that is necessary for any 40k game. The deep progression system, while very confusing and not beginner-friendly, makes for a unique playthrough each time, but the very slow and boring combat hinders the pacing of a somewhat great CRPG.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader successfully encapsulates the vibrant and rich universe, while falling short in other areas. Bugs, glitches, and loading times pad a lengthy, yet enjoyable, adventure to ridiculous levels. Patch work may be incoming, but it’s currently a fight against aggravating qualities rather than an experience that immerses players.”

“Rogue Trader is very much a release in the Owlcat Games mould, combining a great degree of customization with a solid story, meaningful choices, and interesting characters. While all that, combined with excellent use of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, comes perilously close to pushing Rogue Trader into the greatest realm of CRPGs, unfortunate balance issues, obtuse design elements, and myriad bugs prevent the title from achieving its full potential.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is the CRPG that fans of the setting have deserved for years, Owlcat Games has understood the Grimdark not just superficially, but in its full depth, with moral grey zones and cosmic hopelessness that make this one of the most authentic 40K experiences ever made.”

“Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is easily one of the best W40K games out there right now, offering a decent story, rich role-playing opportunities, deep character customization, a servicable combat system and the chance to play as a uber-privileged space fascist. The boring space battles and generic companions do drag the experience down a bit and if you’re someone who has a low tolerant rate towards technical issues, it’s best to wait for the inevitable definitive edition that’s bound to come out soon. Glory to the Imperium of Man!”

“Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a CRPG worthy of its grimdark sci-fi setting, offering players engaging tactical turn-based combat and an immersive adventure. It lacks polish, and we encountered some frustrating bugs, but deep class customisation and an exploration of the setting like nothing before means there's plenty to recommend for fans who are willing to take the plunge.”

“Despite any flaws, wherever they might be found, Rogue Trader was undoubtedly created by people with passion and knowledge about the Warhammer 40,000 setting and lore, who sought to create an excellent Warhammer RPG and, for the most part, they succeeded.”
