How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Tales of Berseria remains one of the deepest and most beautiful JRPG experiences thanks to its epic revenge story and its heterogeneous, vibrant cast of characters. Its fast and varied combat system provided a refreshing experience for a game from a long series. The Remaster version succeeded in technically polishing this experience, but raised a question about the necessity of its existence for those who experienced the original version. It is worth experiencing, but it did not offer any major modifications to the game.”

“Tales of Berseria is still one of my favourite entries in the series, thanks to its excellent story and charming cast of characters. The gameplay is as fun as ever, and it's aged well since its debut nearly a decade ago.This remaster offers plenty of new features for those who've already experienced the game, and they're an extra cherry on top for newcomers. Beyond those quality-of-life additions, the port itself doesn't exactly go above and beyond, but if you're looking to play this game on the go, you can't go wrong here.”

“It’s not perfect. Some of the older design choices and technical limitations are still present, and I do think the effort could have gone further in certain areas. But at its core, this is still a strong JRPG with a memorable story, a fantastic cast, and a deep combat system. I’m glad I finally played it. And if you’ve been on the fence, this version is probably the best way to experience it.”

“Tales of Berseria returns with a remastered version that, in many ways, feels more like a port than a true polish. Despite this, the numerous quality-of-life improvements still manage to make the experience smoother and more accessible, making this edition the ideal choice for those who have never had the chance to experience the original story. Although the update is fairly minimalist, the game retains a charm all its own that’s hard to resist.”

“Tales of Berseria Remastered brings the best of the original game to modern consoles. It features an engaging anime-style story of revenge and a combat system that, while initially confusing, allows for a great deal of freedom. This is further enhanced by a significant number of quality-of-life improvements that contribute to an overall better experience, although the graphical improvements are almost nonexistent.”

“Tales of Berseria Remastered doesn’t bring many significant improvements over the original 2016 game, but it still features dynamic combat, an interesting world, charming characters, and a beautifully tragic story that I would recommend to JRPG and anime fans. I had a great time playing as the evil - or rather, good - Velvet, and I’m sure you will too.”

“For those who enjoy a straightforward revenge story with complicated combat, this is the game to play. There are no technical issues on Nintendo Switch; however, both story and characters seem to be a tad too predictable at times. Additionally, while combat promises interesting abilities and actions, the tutorials are too confusing to really get into it. Overall, Tales of Berseria Remastered lacks in its story and characters the most.”

“Tales of Berseria Remastered plays it safe, delivering improvements in textures, resolution, and frame rate while keeping intact everything that made Tales of Berseria one of the great classics of the Tales franchise. The remaster doesn’t offer many compelling reasons for players who already own the PS4 version to upgrade, but the graphical enhancements make it the perfect entry point for those who have yet to experience Velvet’s journey of revenge.”

“In terms of content, Tales of Berseria Remastered remains beyond reproach. It still boasts a stunning story featuring a fantastic anti-heroine as the protagonist. The changes introduced in the remastered version are largely well-conceived and improve the game. It is a shame that the graphics still betray their PS3 origins, and the English voice acting is poor.”
