How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“Mechanics aren't explained too well which gives this game a bit of a steep learning curve, but it's a great action game if you can get into it.”

“Revengeance is one of the most surprising hack'n'slash titles of this generation. Years ago, nobody would have imagined a game like this within the franchise, and Platinum Games is giving us everything we wanted with it. ”

“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is not perfect. There are times the irreverent take on "Metal Gear" is just a little too irreverent. There are characters and lines of dialogue that one could do without. There are a handful of encounters that jump up and down on the "cheap and unfair" line in a way that The Wonderful 101 never does. And there are some cut-scenes that go on a bit long. However, the first time one slow motion flips in the air and slices an enemy in half with a Zandatsu, grabs his cyborg spine and smashes it for precious energy juice, it's obvious that these are very minor issues in a very good and highly recommended game.”

“A solid game with sparks of excellence, but difficulty niggles and occasionally obtuse controls let it down.”

“Despite the flaws and interruptions of the story and presentation, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a superior title. Platinum Game's genius for creating thrilling action games and simple to learn, yet difficult to master combat systems is in full effect here. If you're a fan of the Metal Gear franchise you should consider Revengeance an essential purchase. Otherwise it will depend on your tolerance for cod-philosophy and hilarious(ly bad) voice acting.”

“It may be a somewhat short experience, but there's no denying the fact that the entire time was full of high adrenaline action. The combat is simple and satisfying, and the presentation is top notch.”

“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance forged a bold, new direction for the acclaimed stealth-action franchise when it was released on home video game consoles, and now it's made even better with the move to PC.”

“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance could have been something big like a successful spin-off, but from my point of view Platinum Games featured too much action and to little gameplay depth in the game. The difficulty level is high and the game is too short. All in all it’s a nice game for core genre fans, but no more. ”

“At the end of the day, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance's greatest accomplishment is that that it assures the world that Platinum's bag of tricks is deeper than anyone thought. This game provides a fresh take on the stylish/character action genre, and it comes off as a high-tier entry in the Metal Gear series.”

“If Revengeance didn't have camera issues this would be the easiest 10 I've ever given. As things stand it's still brilliant, staking out new territory in the genre and adapting certain Metal Gear characteristics so well that it makes the competition look outrageously bad. This is simply the ultimate one-man show, worth its ticket price many times over, an experience that improves exponentially as it gets faster and as you get better.”

“The story may not wow you with its political trappings, but Raiden's transformation and the gameplay that springs from it are the most alluring reasons to give him another shot as the leading man. If you're even vaguely interested in the Metal Gear series or intelligent hack and slash games, do not pass up a chance to play this exciting and addicting hybrid.”

“Exactly as entertaining as you’d expect from a collaboration between two of Japan’s most talented developers, and one of the best action games of the generation.”
