How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

“The game offered us more than we expected in terms of depth and mechanics; it is not just another clone of Souls games, but rather an experience with its own identity. From the intelligence of the (Blood Codes) system, which made us care about character building more than just raising traditional stats, to the (Jail) system and the diverse weapons that made the combat characterized by speed and innovation. However, the journey was not perfect; the repetition in the design of enemies and side areas sometimes made us run toward the boss just to avoid boredom, and the technical performance distanced us from immersion in this graphically beautiful world. In conclusion, it is a distinguished game for those looking for boss fights and complex character-building systems, but you must be patient with the repetitive narrative style and technical problems.”

“Code Vein II overstays its welcome long before the credits roll. This is one Souls-like missing its soul.”

“A good game with an interesting story, a somewhat unnecessary open world, and fantastic character customization, Code Vein 2 can be hard to put down. But it's best to get iton sale.”

“Code Vein 2 isn’t exactly a bad game, but it’s a pointless one and, in many ways, worse than its predecessor, not to mention its outrageously inflated price. The open world hurts it, the technical quality is just above average, and the story fails to convey any emotion due to its cheap presentation. If you loved the first game and need another dose of anime vampires, it might be worth a try on sale. But if you’re expecting an evolution of the genre or a game that can hold its own against modern competition, you’ll be disappointed. It’s a mediocre title that will gather dust before you can say “Resurgence.””

““Code Vein II” has a solid combat foundation, but its lackluster open world, bosses with inconsistent hitboxes and weak story drags it down severely. Much like its predecessor, it had a ton of potential, sadly, unrealized.”

“Even with those issues, I can’t ignore how much Code Vein 2 improves on its predecessor. The deeper focus on storytelling, the ambitious time travel premise, expanded combat options, and enhanced customisation all make it feel like a true evolution rather than a safe sequel. For me, this is the game I wanted the original to be.”

“While not a perfect sequel, few things ever are, Code Vein II certainly improves upon it’s predecessor in just about every way, throwing not only a fun world and combat to play through, but a story that manages to pluck at your heart strings as you delve further into the world and it’s inhabitants.”

“Code Vein 2 is decent and entertaining, but its core mechanic involves time travel that ends up being somewhat basic and vastly underutilized. It excels in its soundtrack, boss design, and a high yet accessible difficulty level. However, the disproportionate design of female characters, a lackluster story, and, above all, poor performance prevent it from becoming the game it truly could have been.”

“Code Vein II is a solid sequel that understands its identity and refines it without losing its essence. Its strategic combat, deep customization, and narrative create an engaging experience for fans of the Soulslike genre. Although its visuals aren't particularly innovative and its difficulty can be intimidating, it manages to position itself as a coherent evolution that rewards patience and mastery of its systems.”

“Code Vein II is a huge improvement over its sequel from gameplay to level design, and even its partner system. It also retains its unrelenting brutality and difficulty without compromise, for better or worse. Like a bunch of gamemakers who stan From Software's work to the point where they don't give players a break and probably turning some folks off who really want to give this subgenre a shot.”

“All things considered, Code Vein II feels like a much-needed breath of fresh air in an otherwise saturated souls-like genre. With its charming narrative, well-crafted social systems, and engaging mechanics, it keeps you hooked from start to finish as you dive deep into the mysteries of its post-apocalyptic world.”
