How this score was computed
The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.
| Component | Positive | Quality (0-100) | Weight (pseudo-reviews) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press reviews (OpenCritic) | – | 74 | 8 |
| All-time Steam reviews | 79% | 73 | 535 |
| Metacritic user ratings | – | 82 | 4 |
| Post-patch Steam reviews (trust-weighted) | 100% | 97 | 1 |
| Calibration prior (typical game) | – | 72 | 50 |

“The improved visuals (useful when attempting to toggle between distinctly marked unit types), lush new locations (Rio's rendition of the Statue of the Redeemer, for instance), well-implemented buffing units (there's one to make your convoy invisible and another to boost your commander's powers), and the depth of strategy to be found in a single, diverse mission, all demonstrate that this anomaly is no mistake.”

“In theory Anomaly 2 is a sequel better in every way, but after a closer look you can see some flaws. The game is prettier and more spectacular that its predecessor, has a lot of interesting ideas and guarantees the same amount of fun. What it lacks, is more content - the campaign is too short, and the multiplayer mode has too few maps and variations. This is a well made evolution, and not a revolution.”

“Cheap, beautiful, entertaining, and highly replayable: Anomaly 2 is well worth your money.”

“The story and characters are nothing to write home about, but the innovative spin on the genre's gameplay results in mentally engaging challenges that reward both quick thinking and deliberate planning, and the satisfactory visuals and sound effects don't hurt in augmenting this amazing abnormality's appeal either.”

“It will take some patience to really succeed in Anomaly 2. That, on top of a good, planned out strategy. Players looking for a challenge will find it here, and the multiplayer, while still frantic, offers up a nice change of pace from the story mode.”

“Anomaly 2 is a fresh coat of paint on the tower defense genre without being all too new or disruptive at the same time. It's a well done and refined version of what came before, adding a multiplayer mode. If part one was to your liking, you're not doing anything wrong with this.”

“Multiplayer shines brightly alongside a short but dynamic campaign in the tower offense sequel Anomaly 2.”

“Like I said, Anomaly 2 is pretty much more Anomaly but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Anomaly 2 will scratch that itch you likely have for reverse tower defense games and with a longer campaign, new units, plus multiplayer you'll definitely be satisfied with what this game brings to the table.”

“An interesting change of pace for fans - or, on the flipside, it could be just the thing to get you interested. [Aug 2013, p.91]”

“Despite some of the new additions failing to add much to the core concept, Anomaly 2's tower-offense gameplay is still fun enough on its own to warrant checking out.”

“Anomaly 2 is a lot like the original instalment. Still, it's a great game with polished gameplay. There's no reason to think twice before buying it. [Issue#231]”

“It’s never simple to make a mixture of fast-paced click-happy and slow-paced strategy genres, but Anomaly 2 is a breathing example of that. Not only the tower defense genre fans, but the strategy lovers won’t want to miss a piece of the gripping experience of Anomaly 2.”
