How this score was computed

The VGC Score is a weighted blend on a press-comparable 0-100 quality scale. Steam approval rates are first calibrated (95% positive on Steam ≈ 89.5 quality, since Steam approval skews high). Press and tracked creator reviews each count ~2x a player review and share one cap against player evidence (creator buy/skip calls pool into an approval rate, calibrated like Steam approval); all-time sentiment is capped and halved (it's context, not verdict); reviews of the current build carry the most weight when a fresh patch anchors the window; and a 'typical game' prior keeps small samples from pegging the scale. Because press reviews and Metacritic user aggregates describe the launch build, their weight decays as the game ages (3-year half-life after a 1-year grace). That's how a game that launched rough can outgrow its old reception once updates win players over. Reviews under 2h playtime (the refund window), non-Steam activations, and free copies are downweighted.

Far Cry 6 has your typical Ubisoft bloat, but the core experience is solid. Combat’s fun, vehicles are cool, and the open-world map is some good stuff too. Worth a shot if you can get it on sale.

I mentioned in my last review for Far Cry 5 that this franchise was in desperate need of an overhaul. Far Cry 6 hasn't listened to its fanbase to make meaningful changes to push this franchise forward. This is a shallow, uninspiring open world slog.

Far Cry 6 is an attempt to use all the best gameplay ideas Ubisoft ever had. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, leaving you with some mixed feelings.

Far Cry still is the king of first-person open world shooters. Even if the bad guys aren't great this time and there's not that many innovations, the gameplay still is very enjoyable, especially in co-op.

The game doesn’t fail, you’ll remember the hits far more than the swings and misses, but it’s easy to imagine the better one that isn’t too big for its britches.

Packed with action and a story of revolution, Far Cry 6 did not disappoint as a longtime fan of the series. Despite its minor flaws, I enjoyed the game more than the fifth installment, and certain new gameplay mechanics gave it a much-needed change. A comprehensive arsenal of weapons, great gameplay, an expansive and elaborate Yara Island setting, a new uncompromising negative hero, customizable gameplay, and much more all make this sequel a full-fledged installment in the series. Far Cry 6 is what die-hard fans have been waiting for, the game plays great and looks great. I recommend the game to both long-time fans and newcomers to the series - so hopefully you'll enjoy your time on Yara at least as much as I did.

For a game all about revolution, Far Cry 6 does little to evolve the aging series, but at least your dog can ride in your car.

[Far Cry 6] is happy in its groove, delivering a fun and immersive Latin American experience, an open world sandbox you can mess around in, and giving you the tools to do what you want. Better yet, it lets you enjoy all of that with a friend.

If you're someone who's a big fan of creating havoc, then you won't find anything wrong with the game. But other than that, you will get disappointed at some points.

While Far Cry 6 still does little to change an overused formula, the changes speak volumes. The new ammo system along with a more fleshed out protagonist and how some side missions are tackled shows that Ubisoft is very much aware that things are getting old. It still does provide a fun romp, but I am hoping to see things shake up much more in the next installment.

Whoever fell in love with Far Cry 5 (and especially New Dawn) will fall in love with Far Cry 6. The game offers more of the same, dozens of hours of pure run'n'gun fun in a giant open-world that will last for months. If you want to relax after a hard day, get the game. If you want anything more, stay away from it.

Far Cry 6 provides the familiar Far Cry experience you know and love along with all of the craziness that comes with it, but with a more engaging, cohesive narrative, and a fantastic antagonist.
